PLAN
Token Economy STRATEGY

Description:
A token economy works best if the teacher knows their students’ interests
and chooses a simple token that is easy to understand. Students will be able
to earn rewards at various difficulty levels. The more challenging the task,
the more money the student will gain. It is important to always have rewards
that students want to buy so that they participate fully. Students can also
pool their money together for a classroom party (or present for the teacher).
Token economy helps teach cooperation, leadership, and the act of saving.
Students will hand in their rewards on a designated day. The teacher and
students can set goals together such as determining how often money can be
turned in or what would be needed for a class party. A token economy is a
good way to have students involved in decision making by giving them the
opportunity to also suggest prizes, rewards, class party ideas, and more.

Strategy Useful:

Teachers face many challenges from high student-teacher ratios to students

with behavior problems. One way to encourage good behavior is by using a
token economy in the classroom. Teachers just need to come up with an
assortment of creative rewards to encourage appropriate behavior.
