ORGANIZING DATA USING PIE GRAPH OR CIRCLE GRAPH
A. What’s New?

In the real world, there are many situations where we are asked to present the
information we gathered in an organized way.

While it is important to systematically collect the data involved in a study, it is

equal importance to present data in an organized form that can easily be understood by
the reader and based on objectives of the study.

Statistical data may be presented either in graphical form or in a tabular form.

Data can be easily interpreted without reading the raw data from well-prepared graphs.
One method to do it is through a graph.
B. What is It?
A graph is the pictorial representation of a statistical data. One of the kinds of graph is
the Pie Graph.

A pie graph also known as circle graph is used to show how all parts of something are
related to the whole. This graph is often used to present graphically categorical or
qualitative distributions. A circle is divided into sectors-pie-shaped pieces, which are
proportional in size to the corresponding frequencies or percentages.

To construct a pie chart, first convert the distribution into a percentage distribution, find
the number of degrees in each sector by multiplying the percentage by 360° and then
draw a circle.

For example:

Construct a circle graph for the following table, which lists expenses for a business trip.

ITEM AMOUNT
CAR RENTAL Php 2000
LODGING Php 3000
EXPENSES
FOOD Php 2500
ENTERTAINMENT Php 1500
OTHERS Php 1000
TOTAL Php 10000
ITEM AMOUNT PERCENTAGE DEGREES IN EACH
SECTOR
CAR RENTAL Php 2000 2000 1 0.20 X 360°= 72°
= =20 %
10000 5
LODGING Php 3000 3000 3 0.30 X 360°= 108°
= =30 %
EXPENSES 10000 10
FOOD Php 2500 2500 1 0.25 X 360°= 90°
= =25 %
10000 4
ENTERTAINMENT Php 1500 1500 3 0.15X 360°= 72°
= =15 %
10000 20
OTHERS Php 1000 1000 1 0.10 X 360°= 36°
= =10 %
10000 10

Expenses

10% Based on the following,

we can conclude the following:
20%
15% a. The lodging expenses got the
highest
part to spend for.
b. ¼ of the food budget was allocated
30% for food.
25% c. Only 10% of the budget was made
for other expenses.
