RELATION

 A relation consists of two sets of elements

called inputs and outputs.
 A relation is a relationship between sets of
values.
 In math, the relation is between the x-values
and y-values of ordered pairs.

DOMAIN - The set of all x-values/inputs.

RANGE -the set of all y-values/outputs.

FUNCTION

 A RULE OF CORRESPONDENCE
BETWEEN TWO NONEMPTY SETS,
SUCH THAT, TO EACH ELEMENT OF
THE FIRST SET CALLED DOMAIN,
THERE CORRESPONDS ONE AND
ONLY ONE ELEMENT OF THE
SECOND SET CALLED RANGE.

GRAPH OF A FUNCTION

 Vertical Line Test

 A graph of mathematical relation is a
function if any vertical line drawn passing
through the graph intersects the graph at
exactly one point.

True or False
TRUE1. Every line on a Cartesian
coordinate plane represents a function.
TRUE2. An element of the range of a function may be used more than once.
FALSE3. If a function is represented by a set of ordered pairs, then, no two pairs have the same
second component (range).

Range of a function
 The set of all y-values.
 The set of outputs.

Domain of a function
 The domain of a function is the set of all inputs (x-values) in which the function is defined/
the function has defined outputs

WAYS IN WRITING THE RANGE AND DOMAIN OF A FUNCTION:

1. SET NOTATION

2. INTERVAL NOTATION
