Bd Storage Hazards
BALA Storage hazards are categorised from the
nature and type of storage. When the height of storage
increases beyond specified limits, fre fighting is
rendered more difficult In worst cases it may not be
possible to fight the fie due to difficulties in reaching
the seatof fire and also accessibility tothe ire fighting
sta is impaired due to excessive smoke. Incase ofthe
sprinklers also the same difficulties are encountered.
Storage risks can be categorised under "moderate" or
‘nigh depending upon the type and method of storage
‘of goals within the godownywarchouse blocks,
8.14.2 ‘The storage occupancies can be regarded as
‘moderate hazard risks if the height of storage is
within the limits for various categories as given in
Table 4.
‘Goods stored not higher than what is stated in Table 4
for the appropriate category or not higher than the
‘eaves height of the roofs or within | mof a flatceiing
whichever is the lowest shall be regarded as moderate
hazard storage. If the above conditions are not met.
the risk shall be regarded as high hazard storage.
8.4143 Incase of high hazard storage risks, the nature
of the hazard is determined by the height of storage,
storage aisle width and area of each storage block,
Goods stored not higher than what is stated in Table 5
forthe appropriate category or not higher than the
caves height ofthe roofs or within I m ofa flat ceiling
whichever is the lowest shall be cegarded as high
hazard storage.
8.18 Requirements Common ta Maderate and High
Hazard Storage Risks
8.1.5.1 Wherever possible, the deflector of the
sprinkler fited in the ceiling shall be at more than
[LS m from the goods stored below. However, incase
of jute godowns, no jute stock shall reach within 2m
‘of the deflector ofthe sprinkle heads,
8.1.5.2 In case of storage in racks or shelves. ifthe
height of storage is more than shat is specified in
Tables 4 and 5, intermediate sprinklers shall be
provided foreach shelfrack in adition othe ceiling
Sprinklers and overall design density and AMAO shall
bbe maintained as per Table
