Introduction

Today’s environment is considered a recurrent change and uncertainty.

Every venture is facing a number of challenges. Industries and organization

typically give into different defiance and education sector was not spared from it.

When Covid-19 was declared as a global pandemic on March 12, 2020, social

distancing was implemented to conclude the widespread of the virus. With this,

schools were forced to temporary closures and the rise of distant working

emerges.

Distant working is a working style which allows employees to work outside

the traditional office environment. It is established on the idea that work does not

need to be done in a certain place to be accomplished auspiciously.

With the growing commination in school crisis, schools are inserting great

strides in implementing best practices to keep students and staff safe. Are

teachers prepared to handle unforeseen challenges that may arise in the new

norms of educational set-up? Are the teachers equipped with the essential

knowledge and skills necessary for the “new normal” education? Is the distant

working fit for teachers in accomplishing their duties and responsibilities?

Globally, many schools have already replaced traditional classroom

setups with innovative flexible learning strategies since these are found to

improve students’ learning outcomes (Kim, 2020). The Philippines Department of

Education (DepEd), implemented distance learning delivery modalities such as

modular, television-based, radio-based instruction, blended, and online while

face-to-face classes still prohibited due to the public health situation.

Teachers who are new to distance learning may feel unprepared to

facilitate teaching, thus, need support as to technical, pedagogical, and time

management (Dyment, 2013). Instruction heavily relies on technology leaving the

teachers not fully prepared and lack of competence (Nilson & Goodson, 2018).

In this light, the study hoped to identify the effect of distant working

schematics to teachers' crisis management preparedness

Objectives of the Study

The main objective of the study is to determine the effect of distant working

schematics to teachers' crisis management preparedness". Specifically, it sought

answers to the following:

1. What are the currently applied teaching/ working schematics of teachers?

2. What are the imposed crisis management and preparedness plans/designs

circulating in public schools?

3. Does the implementation of the identified schematic exert significant effect to

teachers' crisis management and preparedness?

4. Based on the findings of the study, what implications may be drawn?

Methodology

Research Design

The Descriptive-Correlational design provides a thorough observation on

various elements of the study. Upon analysis, the results are presented and

summarized using descriptive writing and statistics. The study also utilized the

basics of Quantitative Research Approach using a standardized survey tool in

collecting primary information in the analysis of the data within the evaluative

survey executed within the time period.

This study will employ the descriptive type of research. This aims to

answer the research questions. The use of descriptive type is to determine the

effect of distant working schematics to teachers’ crisis management

preparedness. It will also use a quantitative research design, subjected for

statistical analysis and interpretation for the sole purpose of analyzing the effect

of distant working schematics to teachers’ crisis management preparedness.

Since the present study focuses on the effect of time management of

distant working schematics to teachers’ crisis management preparedness, this

research will employ correlation research to determine the significant effect of the

two sets of variables. In this sense, working schematic will be used as an

independent variable. However, crisis management will serve as the dependent

variable.

Instrument of the Study

The study utilizes the 4- point likert scale (strongly disagree, disagree, agree, and

strongly agree) survey questionnaire obtained from the study of Musingafi,

Mapuranga, Chiwanza and Zebron (2015). The said study pertains to the crisis

management of teachers during the implementation of the distance learning,

specifically during the Covid - 19 pandemic. The said instrument was adopted

from the study of Musingafi, Mapuranga, Chiwanza and Zebron (2015). The

Cronbach alpha value of the instrument is measured at 8.9.

Respondents of the study

The respondents of this study were Public Junior High School (JHS) teachers in

Pandi North, Siling Bata, Bulacan during the school year 2020-2021.

Population and Sampling

This study will include 117 number of respondents, which is obtained from

computing the sample size from the total population. The total number of

respondents and its distribution were determined using the Raosoft sample size

calculation with a margin of 5% error and confidence level of 95%. Table 1 shows

the identified population and sample count. In addition, The questionnaires were

successfully completed through online Google forms with the permission of the

school principal and the teachers.
