Solve problems involving conversion of units of measurement. M7ME-IIb–2

Contextualized Competency
Solve problems involving conversion of units of length using the landmarks in the
province of Guimaras.

Lesson Objective
At the end of the session students should be able to solve problems involving
conversion of units of length using the landmarks of the province of Guimaras.

Content Standard
Demonstrate understanding of the key concepts of measurement.

Performance Standard
The learner is able to formulate real-life problems involving measurements and solve
these using a variety of strategies.

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Drill: (Flash cards)
a. Divide the students into four groups using “The boat is sinking”.
b. Let the students answer the following as fast as they can using the flash
cards.

2. Review:
a. How do you convert kilometer to miles?
b. How do you convert feet to meter?
c. How do you convert miles to kilometer?
d. How do you convert meter to inches?
e. How do you convert meter to yard?

3. Motivation:
Game using Trivia: Wow Wow Math
 Teacher will ask the questions
 Students will point out the letters of the correct answer posted on the
board.
 The student who got the correct answer will continue playing the game.
The rest will be eliminated.
 The last student standing will be declared as winner.

Direction: Let the students convert the height or distance of the Guimaras
landmarks given. After which ask four (4) students to present their answers on
board.
Note: Round off your answers to the nearest four (4) decimal places

located at Alegria, Sibunag,Guimaras which measures 81.30 m.
Convert the unit of measure into miles.
2. The highest mountain in the province of Guimaras is Mt.
Dinulman located at Millan, Sibunag, Guimaras which measures
876 feet above sea level. What is its height in meters?

What is the height of the wind turbine in inches?

 How will you solve problems involving conversion of units of length
specifically from Metric System to English and vice versa?
 The teacher will discuss further the concepts/principles that were not
emphasized by the student presenters.

D. Application:
As a student, how would you apply the concept of conversion in your life?

IV. Evaluation
Ask the students to answer the following:
 The distance between the Municipal Hall of Jordan and Nueva Valencia
National High School is 27.4 kilometers. What is their distance in miles and
in yard?

V. Agreement/ Assignment
Let the students determine the distance of their houses from school in kilometers
and convert it to meters, inches and yard.
