Adverbs ( Close-up, pg 32)

- are used to tell us more about verbs.


Adverbs describe verbs
Examples:
1) He speaks very loudly.
2) Does everyone drive fast in the city?

Forming adverbs from adjectives

Regular (-ly) Regular (-ily) Irregular


badly easily fast
carefully happily better
quietly angrily well

Regular – words (adjectives) which are usually end with ‘ly’ or ‘ily’
Irregular – words (adjective) which don’t change such as fast, better,
well
