Abstract

Patient falls is one of the greatest risks that face most of the patients in both sub-acute

and acute conditions. Over the recent years, practical methods have been invented to help reduce

such incidences in the hospitals and nursing homes. However, most of them fail to work because

they are either too complex to use or they require both a lot of manpower and resources. Hourly

rounding in the wards has however stood the test of time as the most effective method of

preventing patient falls in such instances. From research conducted by various scholars in the

field, it has been indicated that hourly rounding does not only reduce or prevent the rate of

patient falls but also increases customer satisfaction generally. 83% of the research articles

indicate a positive result of hourly rounding in preventing patient falls and increasing customer

satisfaction. As such, the hourly round measure has been implemented in several facilities

globally ad the outcome is positive. Nurses are big fans of the plan as it works out for their good

alongside the welfare of the patient. the implementation of this measure is easier as it is easily

understandable and also in being integrated. Whereas it requires consistency and commitment, it

is worthwhile and beneficial to the standards of health that are acceptable. In most of the cases

where it has been applied, a tremendous decrease of patient falls has been noted, not forgetting

the increased customer satisfaction.
