R2Sonic 2022/2024, GPS with Dual Antenna

Heading and MRU

HYPACK SURVEY HARDWARE

GPS.DLL
1. Select the GPS.dll and, optionally, rename to 'GPS'.
FIGURE 1. Loading the GPS.dll

2. Check the ‘Position’ function.

3. If you are using an RTK GPS, check the ‘Tide’ function.
4. Select the correct ‘Connect’ settings for your GPS.
5. Enter the Offsets from the Boat Reference Point (BRP or vessel origin).
The Boat Reference Point is the reference by which you position your
devices and tracking point on your vessel. Each sensor is referenced to the
BRP based on the distance in survey units it is starboard (X-direction), forward
(Y-direction) and vertically (Z-direction). Vertical offsets are measured from the
static water line, and are always positive downward.
The offsets for your positioning device in HYPACK® HARDWARE are more
relevant to the data that is being collected in the RAW file, and will have no
bearing on the offsets in HYSWEEP® HARDWAREor the data that is collected
in the HSX file. However, it is always best to enter the correct offsets in each
device particularly if you are collecting data from additional devices configured
in HYPACK® HARDWARE (eg. the Depth, Heading, and Heave functions of
your HYSWEEP Interface (hysweep.dll) and/or individual Singlebeam
Echosounders (SBES) ).

Important: Our preferred method is to measure and reference all offsets for all
devices from the BRP at the boat center of gravity.

6. Click [Setup]. The Driver Setup dialog will appear.

• In the 'Alarms' Tab, set your alarm choices.
• Set the correct status code standard for your GPS.
• In the Advanced tab, select the NMEA input strings the driver will read
from the device.
• If you are using an AirCard for GPS corrections over the Internet, set
up the 'NTRIP Interface' accordingly.
• In the General tab, a PPS box is required, so that all equipment and
their data are time-synched together.

HYSWEEP.DLL
1. Select the HYSWEEP.dll and, optionally, rename it 'HYSWEEP'.
FIGURE 6. Loading the HYSWEEP.DLL

2. Check ALL Functions.

• 'Depth' records the most Nadir depth of the Multibeam in the RAW file in
the same manner as a single beam echosounder (SBES) depth record.
You can then easily perform a Nadir beam depth to SBES depth
comparison.
• 'Heading' is used to correctly orient the direction the boat shape is
pointing.
• 'Heave' is important ‘motion correct‘ your single beam data in the SINGLE
BEAM EDITOR. This can be significant if your data was collected while
you were in a dynamic sea.
3. Leave Connect set to 'None'. There are no physical connections. This driver
communicates through Shared Memory.

4. Set your offsets. Your offsets for the HYSWEEP® Interface and individual
SBES, should be referenced to the Boat Reference Point (BRP).

HYPACK® CONFIGURATION
To synchronize the computer clock with the positioning device:
1. In the devices tree, select 'HYPACK Configuration'.
2. Under ‘Synchronize the Computer Clock', select the GPS device.

To set the Tracking Point offsets:

1. In the devices tree, select 'Boat'.
2. In the Mobile tab, enter the 'Offsets' from the Boat Reference Point (BRP)
for the Tracking Point. They should be the same as the R2Sonic Multibeam
offsets .

NOTE: The Tracking Point Coordinates will be critical for the execution of a
proper Patch Test.

HYPACK® NAVIGATION
HYPACK® Navigation will default as the first device. Do not remove it!!
HYPACK® Navigation receives the positioning data thru Shared Memory from
HYPACK® HARDWARE. No connection settings are needed.

FIGURE 10. HYPACK® Navigation

1. Enter the Offsets for the Positioning device in the Offsets Tab, as the Offsets
do not come thru the Shared Memory.
2. If you are collecting RTK GPS Tide data, select ‘RTK Tide Antenna’ in the
drop-down list and enter the offsets for the RTK Tide Antenna location.

NOTE: If you have only one GPS for both the positioning and tide, these values
will all be the same, but you must enter them for both antennas.

OTHER DEVICES
Install the remaining devices required for the multibeam system's data collection.
For each device:
• Select the device from the Manufacturer/Model list and click [Add->].
• Enter the correct 'Connect' parameters.
• Enter the correct 'Offsets'. Horizontal and vertical offsets are measured from
the same Boat Reference Point as the GPS in HYPACK® HARDWARE.
• If the 'Setup' button is enabled, click it and set any device-specific
options.

NOTE: For details about interfacing specific devices HYSWEEP®, reference the
‘HYSWEEP® Interfacing Notes’ document located in the
\HYPACK_2xxx\Help directory.

APPLANIX R2SONIC
• The R2Sonic driver Connect settings default to the typical parameters.

• Verify the Data Format

output from your device.
• Verify the Local IP
Address. The IP Address
is the address of the
network interface card in
your HYPACK® computer.
• Log Snippet Data: If your
R2Sonic can log snippets
and you wish to collect
them, check this option and
verify that you have
enabled the Snippets
function in the Sonic
Control 2000 software
under SETTINGS-SONAR SETTINGS.

TSS DMS MOTION REFERENCE UNIT (MRU)

The 'TSS DMS' will require verification of the proper mounting and message
format.

NOTE: The TSS DMS does NOT have the ability to output the Simrad EM3000
Message.
