Improving Students Ability in Solving Reading Question Using

Scanning Technique: Literature Review

Abstract

Language education can be achieved with four basic language skills. These skills are
listening, speaking, reading and writing. One of the basic skills that improve
vocabulary is reading skills. One of the skills in language, reading becomes a
challenge for every student because understanding reading is a complicated process.
This study aims to help students improve their reading skills while answering
questions using scanning techniques. There are many cases that often occur during
the process of answering questions with the teacher, students are able to do well
because there is guidance from the teacher but when students are asked to do it
individually, It was found that many students had difficulty trying to work on these
questions so that it took a lot of time. Which makes students not have time to
complete all the questions given. Research is expected to help students improve their
ability to work on problems in reading so that they can solve the questions on time.

INTRODUCTION

There are many ways that can be used to improve the ability of each student in
reading, especially when working on reading questions which many students face.
Based on the observation of the students 'problems, the researcher was encouraged to
conduct a study entitled "improving students' ability in solving reading questions
using scanning techniques". Reading is a way of thinking, evaluating, assessing,
imagining, reasoning, and solving problems (Okasha, 2004). Therefore, the
researchers conducted this research because these problems often occur during the
learning process, thus hampering students' ability to work on questions. Learning to
use strategy effectively is essential for constructing meaning. Readers who are not
strategic have difficulty reading (Paris, 1992). In basic language education, reading is
one of the skills that can help students improve their English language skills. But on
the other hand, it is also a difficulty for each student, reading requires concentration
and accuracy to find the right meaning, and there are also many reading questions that
trick the readers. once again the researcher really hopes that this research can help
students deal with these problems.
