Exercise 1
1. The keystone are wedge-shaped makes an arch not fall down.

downward.

7. The voussoirs are the wedge-shaped blocks which make up the arch, while the keystone
is larger than he voussoirs, and is often decorated.

9. Buttresses is the side supports are often held up by heavy masses of stone, and their
function is to reinforce the wall.
10. The wooden framework is used to support the center stone, until the center stone at the
top is dropped into place.
