Answers

(1) A) a. 6b4 - 10b3 + 16b2 - 12b + 2

Step 1
Let's first multiply first two polynomials,
( -3b2 + 2b - 2) × ( -2b2 + 2b - 2)
= ( -3b2)( -2b2 + 2b - 2) + (2b)( -2b2 + 2b - 2) + ( - 2)( -2b2 + 2b - 2)
= (6b4 - 6b3 + 6b2) + ( -4b3 + 4b2 - 4b) + (4b2 - 4b + 4)
= 6b4 - 10b3 + 14b2 - 8b + 4

Step 2

Now, on subtracting -2b2 + 4b + 2 from 6b4 - 10b3 + 14b2 - 8b + 4, we get:

(6b4 - 10b3 + 14b2 - 8b + 4) - ( -2b2 + 4b + 2) = 6b4 - 10b3 + 16b2 - 12b + 2

Step 3

Therefore, the simplified form of [( -3b2 + 2b - 2) × ( -2b2 + 2b - 2)] - ( -2b2 + 4b + 2) is 6b 4

- 10b 3 + 16b 2 - 12b + 2.

(2) b. 4

Step 1
To find the value of Y, we have to first multiply the digits in the ones place:
4 × 2 ones = 8 ones

Step 2
So, we have to write 8 in the ones column.
H T O

1 0 2
× 4
8

Step 3
Now, we have to multiply the tens digit.
4 × 0 tens = 0 tens

Step 4
So, we have to write 0 in the tens column.
H T O

1 0 2
× 4
0 8

Step 5
Now, we have to multiply the hundreds digit.
4 × 1 hundreds = 4 hundreds

Step 6
Therefore, we have:
H T O

1 0 2
× 4
4 0 8

Step 7
Comparing the product 408 with Y08, we get Y = 4.

(5) a. 2m, m2 - 1, m 2 + 1

Step 1

A Pythagorean triplet consists of three positive integer a, b, and c, such that a 2 + b2 = c2.
Let's check all of the options for this condition.

Step 2

a. 2m, m2 - 1, m 2 + 1
If 2m, m2 - 1, m 2 + 1 was a Pythagorean triplet, the following equation will always hold true:
(2m)2 + (m2 - 1)2 = (m2 + 1)2
⇒ 4m2 + m 4 - 2m2 + 1 = m4 + 2m2 + 1
⇒ m4 + 4m2 - 2m2 + 1 = m 4 + 2m2 + 1
⇒ m4 + 2m2 + 1 = m 4 + 2m2 + 1
Since LHS = RHS, 2m, m2 - 1, m 2 + 1 is a Pythagorean triplet condition.

Step 3

b. 2m + 1, m2 - 1, m 2 + 1
If 2m + 1, m2 - 1, m 2 + 1 was a Pythagorean triplet, the following equation will always hold true:
(2m + 1)2 + (m2 - 1)2 = (m2 + 1)2
⇒ 4m2 + 4m + 1 + m4 - 2m2 + 1 = m 4 + 2m2 + 1
⇒ m4 + 2m2 + 4m + 2 = m4 + 2m2 + 1
Since LHS ≠ RHS, 2m + 1, m2 - 1, m 2 + 1 is not a Pythagorean triplet.

Step 4

c. 2m - 1, m 2 - 1, m 2
If 2m - 1, m 2 - 1, m was a Pythagorean triplet, the following equation will always hold true:
(2m - 1)2 + (m2 - 1)2 = m 2
⇒ 4m2 - 4m + 1 + m 4 - 2m2 + 1 = m 2
⇒ m4 + 2m2 - 4m + 2 = m 2
Since LHS ≠ RHS, 2m - 1, m 2 - 1, m 2 is not a Pythagorean triplet.

Step 5

d. 2m, m2, m2 + 1
If 2m, m2, m2 + 1 was a Pythagorean triplet, the following equation will always hold true:
(2m)2 + (m2)2 = (m2 + 1)2
⇒ 4m2 + m 4 = m 4 + 2m2 + 1
⇒ m4 + 4m2 = m 4 + 2m2 + 1
Since LHS ≠ RHS, 2m, m2, m2 + 1 is not a Pythagorean triplet.

Step 6

Thus, 2m, m2 - 1, m 2 + 1 are the pythagorean triplets for the number m.

Step 7
Hence we can see that option a is the right option.

(8) 190 cm3

Step 1
According to the question, water expands by 4% of its volume as it freezes.
Let us assume that x cm 3 water is required to obtain 197.6 cm 3 of ice.
4
Therefore, x + (x × ) = 197.6
100
4
⇒ x(1 + ) = 197.6
100
⇒ 1.04x = 197.6
197.6
⇒x=
1.04
⇒ x = 190 cm3

Step 2

Thus, 190 cm3 water is required to obtain 197.6 cm 3 of ice.

(9) 143 (Dividing 1430000 by 143 gives you 10000 = 100 × 100)

Step 1
Perfect square is a number made by squaring a whole number. Steps to check if a number is perfect
square are as follows.

i. Resolve the given number into prime factors.

ii. Make pairs of prime factors such that both the factors in each pair are equal.
iii. If there is nothing left without the pair of prime numbers so the number is perfect square
otherwise not.

Step 2
Prime factors of 1430000 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 5 × 5 × 5 × 5 × 11 × 13

Step 3
Lets' create pairs of prime factors,
1430000 = (2 × 2) × (2 × 2) × (5 × 5) × (5 × 5) × 11 × 13

Step 4
This number is not the perfect square, since all factors are not paired. If we divide this number by
remaining prime factors (i.e. 11 × 13 = 143), all prime factors will be paired and number will be perfect
square.

Step 5
Therefore, 143 is the smallest number that can be used to divide 1430000 to give the perfect square.

(10) 12 meters, 6 meters

Step 1
It is given that the length of the rectangular ground is 6 meters more than its breadth.
Let us assume that the breadth of the ground is w.
So, the length of the ground will be w + 6.

Step 2
Since, we know that the perimeter of a rectangle is twice the sum of length and the breadth of the
rectangle.
The perimeter of the ground = 2(w + w + 6) = 2(2w + 6)

Step 3
It is given that the perimeter of the rectangular ground is 36 meters.
Therefore, 2(2w + 6) = 36
⇒ 4w + 12 = 36
⇒ 4w = 36 - 12
⇒ 4w = 24
24
⇒w=
4
⇒w=6

Step 4
So, the length of the rectangular ground = w + 6 = 6 + 6 = 12 meters
The breadth of the rectangular ground = w = 6 meters
