TOPIC: BOOK REVIEW ON WINGS OF FIRE – AN

AUTOBIOGRAPHY BY DR.A.P.J.ABDUL KALAM

Ever since I started discovering books, it’s been a wonderful journey so far. I’m
still amused of how these books changed me as a person throughout all these
years. They became my friends when I was alone, made me a wide thinking and
open minded person and taught me so many things that was useful at every or
other situation in my life. While this is the bond between my books and me,
today I would like to write on that one book which I must say, was one of the
best reads of all time.

Wings of fire – An Autobiography by Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam. As Dr.Kalam

rightly said, everyone is born with a divine fire in us and our efforts should be
to give wings to this fire and fill the world with the glory of its goodness. In my
opinion this book is a must read for anyone who wants to know what it takes to
be successful in life and how a person’s struggle today leads him to his destiny
thereby also contributing to our nation at the same time. Wings of fire book is
all about Dr.Kalam’s journey of life, which is a roller coaster ride for sure both
for us as readers as well as him if I must say. From being a small boy of 12
years studying in Rameswaram to becoming the President in Rashtrapathi
Bhavan, his life teaches us so much on family, education, science & technology,
friendship, nature, poetry, success, failure, leadership, welfare of the country,
development, contribution and what not.

Though there are many topics covered in this book but still I feel that this book
touches two core topics and gives us important life lessons that one must
understand and imbibe in one’s life. To my mind the first lesson that we could
learn is the importance of education. When I analyzed the book it clearly shows
that our present state can’t determine that what we are going to be in the future.
Dr.Kalam was himself from a small middle class tamil family but he reached so
far that none of them at Rameshwaram can ever imagine. That’s where we must
understand that education was the tool which he used in order to climb the
success ladder. This book teaches us how much education is important and that
it’s the knowledge you gain that will take you forward in your career and life in
general. Also, I can affirm firmly after reading this book that hard work and
dedication is what it takes to be successful. There are many instances in this
book that I feel that touches these points mentioned above. The second lesson as
of me is all about work ethics, simplicity and selfless contribution to our nation.
These three topics are very vital for a person to call himself a person. In this
inhumane world which we live in currently, this book teaches you how to
become a human again and that how to selflessly contribute to our country with
all that we have but still enjoying the life we want with happiness and
satisfaction. The middle section of this book covers about his work experience
and teaches us how to be true to our work and how leadership is vital for life.
The latter part is all about selflessly serving our nation and developing it as far
as we could. The most important part I liked about this book was that
irrespective of Dr.Kalam being the ideal man having all that a human being can
ever ask for but he still was a person with simplicity and humility which I feel is
the best part that you can feel indirectly by reading this book.

I have no doubt that this book will be loved by all the science chaps out there as
it’s a book of science in other words and is from the man of science and
technology as we come across those technical jargons which for a normal being
without a science background will slightly be a dry one to read for sure but
anyway I have this strong feeling that even we can understand how our country
got up and today we are also powerful with our own nuclear weapons, satellites
and rockets. Finally, this book to my opinion is for all the Indians who will not
be the same but a better person after reading this book as it is a mixture of
science and life which I cherish reading every time again.
