There were chaos in France after the French revolution as Louis XVII attempted to implement a
few things from the pre-Napoleonic times. These were things that the majority of the people
didn’t support so it created a resentment among them. Napoleon also attempted to attack France
but was defeated.

Some Europeans e.g. Austria and Prussia formed coalitions in order to protect themselves from
French attacks. However the French still went on to defeat them and take some of their territory.
The coalitions were justified as Napoleon’s army was very fierce.

The Europeans thought that the revolution would spread to other nations. The rulers were
alarmed and decided to form coalitions to prevent such from happening and also to intervene in
the French revolution

The French army had worse performance than during when napoleon was ruler. Many soldiers
were given titles based on the rights that they were born into and not based on their own personal
prowess. This led to a large number of generals who had less skill than the people they were
governing which would impede the rate at which the army could win wars. Titles during
Napoleons time were given according to how good a person was, given a certain role. This
helped the army become stronger as every person was given the role that they were good at.

There was a clear line of command from top to bottom during napoleon’s time and necessary
information generally spread faster than during earlier periods. The direction of the army during
napoleon’s time was fully unified as commands came from top to bottom unlike before where
some generals would make their own decisions without communicating to the officials as
information from the top would have taken time before it reached the soldiers in lower ranks.

The soldiers in Napoleons army had their full allegiance to Napoleon, s were on a unified front.
The army before napoleons time had disunities as some of the soldiers felt misrepresented and
felt like their needs were not taken into consideration

The congress of Vienna was a series of meetings held in Vienna from November 1814 to June
1815 to restore a balance of power in Europe after Napoleon vacated his seat as emperor of
France

To establish a balance of power and prevent any threat of imperialism_ France had to give up all
territories that Napoleon had conquered, but still kept all other territories it had before. France
wasn’t to be so severely punished that it would cause them to revenge. It was only slightly
weakened.

To prevent any political revolutions from happening- They formed alliances and vowed to help
each other in case any of them ever needed any help.

To redraw the European map back to the original 1789- All territories that Napoleon had
concurred were returned and the monarchial rule over them reinstated.

To support the idea of returning the European monarchs France’s monarchies were returned to
power, bourbon rulers regained power over Spain and Hapsburg princes got back Northern Italy.
This was to stabilize political relations

There was a balance of power as France had its territories taken preventing it from being too
strong.

Any threats of political revolutions were curbed as the powers vowed to come to the rescue of
each other in case any of them was ever under attack

The European monarchs got their territories back and from this, political stability was ensured as
all political relations were secure.

There was political triumph as no country suffered so severely that it would hold a grudge
against the others, causing them to want revenge. This way peace was guaranteed.

The principles of democracy were seen a good way to ensure equality and justice prevailed and
thus old systems of taxation and property ownership were challenged.

The confederate alliances that had been formed had different interests. Russia and Austria argued
that the alliances should interfere with internal affairs of different European states. England
however didn’t want to interfere in the internal affairs of a specific country.

Since the concert of Europe came together due to being in danger because of Napoleon, They
effectively remained effective up to the point that Napoleon died. It became a disunited front
after that.

There were a lot of revolutionary feelings in Europe. However most of the alliance believed in
preserving the status quo and didn’t allow for any political change in the system. Citizens of the
countries revolted against the working policy of this system which led to a failure of the system.

There was a lack of unity confidence and trust among the members. The members spent time
criticizing each other instead of passing resolutions of importance. With these imbalances it
continuously became hard to remain allied.

In my view Napoleon was a hero. Rising from the lowest social class to being a king isn’t an
easy feat to accomplish. He engaged in numerous wars and won in 60 out of the 67 heh had been
in. Nonetheless he also expanded public improvement on palaces buildings, seaports, dock,
harbors, railways, roads, bridges and buildings in Paris. This helped to embellish France as a
global leader. He also gave back power to the people and made life fair in a certain sense to all
classes
