For additional terms, refer to the Glossary of Computerized System and Software
Development Terminology and A Globally Harmonized Glossary of Terms for
Communicating Computer Validation Key Practices.

Test Nonconformance A test nonconformance occurs when the actual test result
does not equal the expected result or an unexpected event (such as a loss of
power) is encountered.
Training plan Documentation describing the training required for an individual
based on his or her job title or description.
Training record Documentation (electronic or paper) of the training received by an
individual that includes, but is not limited to, the individual’s name or identifier;
the type of training received; the date the training occurred; the trainer’s name or
identifier; and an indication of the effectiveness of the training (if applicable).
Trustworthy Reliability, authenticity, integrity, and usability are the characteristics
used to describe trustworthy records from a record management perspective
(NARA).
Transient memory Memory that must have a constant supply of power or the
stored data will be lost.
Unplanned (emergency) change An unanticipated necessary change to a validated
system requiring rapid implementation.
User back-up/alternative procedures Procedure describing steps to be taken for
the continued recording and control of the raw data in the event of a computer
system interruption or failure.
Unit A separately testable element specified in the design of a computer software
element. Synonymous to component, module (IEEE).
UserID A sequence of characters that is recognized by the computer and that
uniquely identifies one person. The UserID is the first form of identification.
UserID is also known as a PIN or identification code.
Validated The term ‘validated’ is used to indicate a status that designates that a
system and/or software is compliant with all regulatory requirements.
Validation Action of proving, in accordance with the principles of Good
Manufacturing Practice, that any procedure, process, equipment, material,
activity, or system actually leads to the expected results (see also qualification)
(EU PIC/S).
Validation coordinator A person or designee responsible for coordinating the
validation activities for a specific project or task.
Validation protocol A written plan stating how validation will be conducted,
including test parameters, product characteristics, production equipment, and
decision points on what constitutes acceptable test results (FDA).
Validation plan A multidisciplinary strategy from which each phase of a validation
process is planned, implemented, and documented to ensure that a facility,
process, equipment, or system does what it is designed to do. May also be known
as a system or software Quality Plan.
Validation Summary Report (VSR) Documents confirming that the entire project
planned activities have been completed. On acceptance of the Validation
Summary Report, the user releases the system for use, possibly with a requirement
that continuing monitoring should take place for a certain time (GAMP).
