Vlloeyball Court Central(2011) emphasized the history of volleyball started way back when William G.

Morgan, an instructor with the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts, invented the sport in 1895. (VCC,
2011)

According to Gasper (2013) The development of Philippine volleyball started when the Philippines was a
territory of the United States (1898-1946) in 1910. In its development as a competitive and international
game, the Filipinos have made big contributions to volleyball. In its status as an independent republic
(1946-present), the Filipinos continued playing volleyball until the modern-day era. (Gasper,2013)

Weinblatt (2011) stated that YMCA's Physical Director, Elwood S. Brown, first brought volleyball to the
Philippines. He gathered tgat information from the Philippine Volleyball Federation, or PVF. Philippine
citizens started playing volleyball as a backyard sport and beach volleyball games soon followed. The net
between two trees was hanged by the players.

Next significant discovery and contribution of Philippines to volleyball is the three hit limit, Nusbaum
(2020) argued that volleyball’s three-hit limit was born on the beaches of the Philippines. They tried new
techniques and asked themselves why not try to get the victory and that's why they created new style of
playing it which eventually named three hit limit by Americans.(Nusbaum, 2020)

SpikeItHard (2007) mentioned that in 1916, by doing it on a high trajectory, Filipinos found a different
way to move the ball back to be hit by another player. They've found it very effective. The ability to set
and to spike was then added. Later on, it was dubbed as the Filipino Bomb.(SpikeItHard,2007)

Philippine Volleyball Federation(n.d.) discussed that the first association originated whenSupt. Tomas de
Castro called for a meeting with Justice Roman Nolasco, Jose N. Reyes, Director of the Playground and
Recreation Bureau, and a businessman, Tommy Teng, on July 4, 1961. The goal of the Philippine
Amateur Athletic Federation was to establish a volleyball association in the Philippines (PAAF). This gave
birth to the Amateur Volleyball Association Philippines (PAVA). (PVF, n.d.)

Wikipedia (n.d) also added that in 2003 PAVA bevame Philippine Volleyball Federation until 2015, when
recognition was transferred to the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas (LVPI), following a leadership conflict in
the PVF, PVF was the recognised sporting body for volleyball. In 2021, the Philippine National Volleyball
Federation (PNVF) was replaced by the LVPI itself. (Wikipedia, n.d)
