    There are three main types of mind maps that can be used for organizing information. The first is a central organizing idea mind map which uses a central word or image to represent the main topic and branches out with related concepts. The second is a brainstorming mind map which allows for freeform ideas to be added without structure to generate new ideas. The third is a nested mind map which uses hierarchy by having primary, secondary and tertiary branches to structure information in an outline format.
