DISASSEMBLY. Disassemble in the same ‘order as the key index numbers assigned to the exploded view illustration, figure 3. NOTE Model No. 8TJ39BAL2 has polished brushes in the shaft and brush assembly (8) and has a staked washer in the case ‘and flange assembly (18). 3. CLEANING. ‘8. Clean coil with naphtha and a bristle brush, Wipe with chamois cloth, 4. INSPECTION. Check brush and coil for excessive wear. 5. REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT. a. Repair or replace all broken or badly worn parts, . If in soldering operations it is necessary to use a flux, use only rosin flux or a rosin-and. ‘alcohol flux. 6 LUBRICATION. ‘& Apply a thin film of medium grease (Specification MIL-L-18719A) to sheft and ring to fill voids before inserting in 7. REASSEMBLY. ‘a, Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly ‘and, in addition, note the following: (1) Coll Assembly. Assemble coil into case, ensuring that insulation is wrapped completely ‘around inside of case. Use care in inserting coil a Nomenclature Standard Indicator Application To calibrate transmitter in case to prevent damage or scratches to winding, (2) Assembly of Shaft in Case. Use extrome care to prevent bending brushes, Dam- ‘aged or bent brushes shall be replaced and rechecked. Ensure there are no burts or loose chips caused by insorting Truare snap ring to shaft. ‘The shaft shall tum freely and smoothly, ‘and the torque shall not exceed 0.5 inch-pounds. (3) Contact Assembly. Place contact ‘assembly in case, taking care not to bend or wrinkle insulation around inside of case, Clear- ‘ance cut in this part must be oriented properly ‘and be in alignment with tap on coil, Insert wave washer and then snap ring, with snap ring pliers. Wave washer must be compressed from ‘1/32 to 3/32 height after assembly of snap ring. (4) Receptacle Assembly. Solder lead Wires to receptacle as shown in figure 1. Place receptacle in position and clamp, Care must be taken not to pinch lead wires. (5) Perform leak test as di graph 8.b. prior to flushing, sesling, fiting (6) Flushing, Seating, and Helium-Filling, Place instrument in chamber with filing hole down and hold pressure for 12 minutes at 200 microns, flushing with dry holium of at least 98 percent purity. Remove case with hole in down position. Tin edges of hole and seal with solder (1, figure 3) as quickly 2 possible. 8. TEST PROCEDURE. 8, Measure the resistance between coil leads AB, AC, and 8C. The resistance should be 600 ‘ohms £150 ohms. Resistance between, should be within 1 percent of the averoge. ‘b, The transmitter shall be immersed! in a suit: ‘able deaerated liquid, such as water, and pres- surized slowly via the filler hole to 6.51.5 psi. NAVAIR 05-558.553 HERMETICALLY SEALED UOS-6xx.001 RECEPTACLE. FOR MATING PLUG, USE UDS611N OR EQUIVALENT. ‘VIEWED FROM SHAFT END ‘vieweo From RECEPTACLE EHO Figure 1. Internal Connections Bubbles emanating from the interior of the trans- imitter shall be considered leakage and shall be cause for rejection. Transmitters that are not leaking shall then be flushed, sealed, and filled with an inert gas in accordance with the proce: dure outlined above bofore completion of the ramaining tests, ©. Megohm Test. Apply an electromotive force of 100 V de betwoen individual leed wires ‘and cate, A minimum resistance of 20 megohms shall exist. Remove contact assembly, taking ©2re not to damage or bend lead wires, d. ‘Test the assembled transmitter by connect: ing to a standard indicator, as shown in the cali. bration diagram, figure 2. ‘Use a test fixture with 8 360-degree di 2, Mount transmitter on test panel and turn shaft one revolution clockwise and one revolution ‘counterclockwise to check operation, 1. Clockwise rotation of the transmitter shaft, 4s viowed from the shaft end, results in clock. wise rotation of the indicator pointer. One com- Plete rotation of the transmitter shaft should gi ‘one complete rotation of the indicator pointer, The indicator pointer must move without hesita- tion oF erratic motion as the transmitter shaft is rotated. Check the angular rotation of the trans- ‘mitter at every 30-degree point on the indicator, 8, Tolerance is 4 degrees on standard indisa- tor between maximum “plus” and mi “eiinus” positions. PARTS BREAKDOWN. ‘a. The exploded view, figure 3, and parts breakdown for models 8TJ39BAL1 and STJ39BAL2 transmitters are given on the follow- ing page. 1b, Usable on Code. When a single breakdown of two or more similar madels or assemblies is ‘made, an alphabetical code of capital letters is ‘used in the Usable on Code column of the bre down to indicate on which assemblies the parts ‘are used. An outline of the letter symbole used is as follows: MODEL.NO. CODE DESIGNATION BT/39BAL1 A BTI39BAL2 B NAVAIR 05-554.553 STANOARO IuoicATOR MODEL 60. 1POL Figure 3.
