About the 3204 DVR 1 Installing a Hard Drive

3204 DVR
The 3204 DVR is a compact digital video recorder (DVR)
that lets you record and monitor continuous or event-
driven audio and video from cameras, microphones, and
other connected devices. Key features include:
? A customized Linux operating system that starts from
a protected flash memory system.
? A hard drive management system that ensures reliable
hard drive operation and early detection of hard
drive faults.
? An internal battery backup system that ensures
continuous operation or systematic shutdown
sequences during power disturbances.
Recorder Setup
This quick start guide provides basic steps for setting up a
3204 DVR. The recorder setup tasks include:
? Installing a hard drive
? Mounting the recorder
? Powering the recorder
? Connecting to the recorder
? Configuring the recorder
Warning!
The installation of hard drives must be performed by
qualified service personnel, using anti-static precautions.
You can install one 3.5-inch ATA hard drive in the
recorder. The recorder will:
? Automatically detect and format a new hard drive.
? Automatically detect and reuse a previously formatted
hard drive.
To install a hard drive in a recorder
1 Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove two screws
from the lower front left and right corners of
the recorder.
2 Open the hinged recorder lid.
3 Loosen the four nylon thumbscrews that secure
the hard drive brackets to the recorder lid.
4 Slide each bracket until the nylon thumbscrews fit
through the bracket key slots, freeing the brackets
from the recorder lid.
5 Secure a bracket to each side of the hard drive
using two screws.
6 Place the hard drive and bracket assembly on the
recorder lid, then tighten the nylon thumbscrews.
Note: You must mount the hard drive on the recorder
lid so that the hard drive connectors point to the left
side of the recorder.
7 Connect the power cable and IDE ribbon cable to
the hard drive.
8 Close the recorder lid and replace the screws.

2 Mounting the Recorder 3 Powering On or Off the Recorder

You can use the 3204 DVR in desk-mount or wall-mount
applications. Since the recorder is shipped with rubber
feet installed, no installation modifications are required
for desk-mount applications. To wall-mount the
recorder, use the following installation procedure:
To power on the recorder
? Plug the 12 volts DC input cord into the recorder.
To power off the recorder
? Unplug the 12 volts DC input cord from the recorder.

To wall-mount the recorder

5 Configuring the Recorder

You can configure a recorder using a laptop computer

running a terminal emulation program.

To configure the recorder
