presence of mind to find a safer and better way to survive.

In any natural calamity, the basic needs of the people are same like food to eat,
shelter to live in, means to fight the cold, hygienic condition, medical aid for
betterment. We need to console each other and fight together in national
calamity.

paragraph on the topic “ what makes a home is not a Binani cement but

Ans. “ What makes a home is not a Binani cement but love and care”

A home is not of cement and bricks. Binani cement can make only a lasting
building but not a home. To make a house a home we need people living there
who are bonded with love and care. It may not always be a perfect place. One
may find things piled up here and there. But it is at home we begin our morning
and share most precious moments with our loved ones.

It is filled with tender touches and smells. It is here we share not only joys but
also sorrows. When we fall sick we are cared for by our dear and near one.
Home is always a sweet place to love and live.

Chapter – 9 [ The Accidental Tourist ]
--: Bill Bryson

1. Give the character sketch of Bill Bryson as the most confused person.

Or

Is the chapter “ The accidental tourist “ an exaggeration or a true

narration of his plight while travelling by plane ?

Ans. Bill Bryson has been portrayed as the most confused person. But writer has
simply used exaggeration as a technique to add humor to his story. One can be
clumsy but cannot be so clumsy as to repeat the same mistake again and again.
His narration of the things contained in his bag and falling over an area about
size of a tennis court is also exaggeration.

Dropping a soft drink not once but twice on the same lady passenger is also
unlikely. When on flight alone, his sitting quietly, not eating, drinking, or
leaning to tie his shoe laces, never putting a pen anywhere near his mouth,
sitting on his hands etc throughout the journey is entirely exaggerated to add
humor.

2. Many people get confused easily and act in a foolish manner like Bill
Bryson in the story “The accidental tourist “. It is because they lack self
confidence. Based on your reading of the story, write a paragraph on the
topic, “Importance of self confidence “.

Ans. “Importance of self confidence “

Self confidence is very important to achieve success in life. It will help us to

have a control over our own destiny. It gives us a positive frame of mind. It
helps us to make the best use of our talents and skills in achieving our goals. If
we do not possess self confidence, we will never be able to take right decision
and will always remain confused.

Lack of
self confidence can lead to fear and lack of courage in performing any task
correctly. The fear of failure will always haunt us. Good parenting and quality
education can help us develop self confidence right from childhood.

2. Lushkoff became a beggar not by circumstances but by choice. Based on

your reading the story “ The Beggar”. Write a paragraph on the topic,

“ How can we abolish begging”.

“ How can we abolish begging “

Ans-: Begging has become habit for most of the beggar. Many people sound healthy
and fit but they become beggar. Even if they are given a chance to rescue
themselves from this miserable condition, they would still feel uncomfortable
and go back to their old habit of begging. It is indeed a knotty problem in our
society.
J.M.D.
(JOIN MENTORS OF DISCIPLINE)
In order to abolish begging, we
must stop alms giving because begging leads to many social evils. Only those
who are crippled, helpless or homeless should be given alms.

Further, the Government should start its own institutions,

where widows, orphans, and other helpless people may find shelter.
