Being one of the most indigenous in this world of architecture, there are vast territories in south east

Asia in which this phenomenon exist called “Austronesian World “but japan is not included.
Austronesian architecture is a wood inspired material in architecture, wood is the most commonly
material they used , because of this material, we have those beautiful wooden buildings right now, some
of the designers or architects was inspired to used this type of material, despite of the perishable nature
of wood, they still used this kind of material because of it’s advantages in construction.

Philippines is one of the country in south east asia who used bamboo in their architecture era. The
architecture of the classic period of the Philippines reflected in it’s architectural heritage, in the
dwellings of it’s various peoples, in churches and mosques, and in the buildings that have risen in
response to the demands of progress and the aspiration of the people. Because of being conquered by
other countries in the past era, architecture of the Philippines was evolved from time to time.

Bahay Kubo or Nipa Hut is one of the traditional structure or houses in the Philippines, Bahay Kubo is a
type of stilt house, it is also known as payag or kamalig in other languages in the Philippines. It often
serves as an icon of Philippine Culture, by being conquered by the Spanish, Japanese and American, it’s
architectural principles of Filipino traditional houses and building was evolve after the pre-colonial era.

From Bahay Kubo, By being Colonized by the Spaniards, it evolves into Bahay na Bato, which is the noble
version of bahay kubo. Bahay na bato or stone house is a type of building that rose in popularity during
the Philippines Spanish colonial period. The concept and design of bahay kubo was maintained when
bahay na bato was built, it is a improved version of bahay kubo that can endured tropical climate, rainy
season and earthquake. These design are commonly called ancestral houses since bahay na bato are the
ones that stood the test of time.

If I ever be given a chance to design a modern house inspired by the pre-hispanic houses, I will be
honoured to chose the concept and design of bahay na bato, because bahay na bato is still our one of
the traditional houses that we cherish till now, despite of being improved by the spanish architecture,
the Filipino architecture Is till there to make the structure called a Filipino structure, as a Filipino, being
inspired by the other countries architecture is not bad, by adopting their design to make our own
architecture improve, as a Filipino, we still need to cherish our own design and concept in our Filipino
architecture.
