NATURAL DISASTERS
DEDICATORY: This work is dedicated to the general public to know what
to do in case of an emergency
DISASTERS IN PERU IN THE LAST TEN YEARS
The coastal child of 2017: This event occurred when rainfall increased
since the end of January 2017 and its greatest impact was at the end of
march, lasting until April. In Peru, a total of 101 deaths were reported, 353
wounded, 19 disappeared, 141,000 victims and almost a million affected,
rainfall increased throughout the country, producing torrential rains and
electrical storms that caused overflows, floods, landslides (alluvium),
registering more rains in the jungle, snowfall or hailstorms in the
mountains, and especially affecting the coastal regions of Tumbes, Piura,
Lambayeque, La Libertad, Ancash y Lima.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR AN EMERGENCY?
When there is an emergency, being prepared is the most important to
surviving any natural disaster, such as an earthquake, a flood, a
hurricane, a tornado, and others events. You should considerer the
following recommendations:
o Keep calm: the desperation may play a role against
o Plan your evacuations routes: Determine where you will go in case
you can´t stay at home.
o Develop a family response plan: Set up a meeting with your family
to discuss why they need to prepare for an emergency.
o Prepare an emergency kit: Always keep a first aid kit
o Participate in practice drills: You should conduct emergency drills
every year for each type of disaster that may occur.
WHAT SUPPLIES TO HAVE FOR AN EMERGENCY?
From food to first aid supplies, experts suggest gathering a few
essentials - including some items that may be off your radar - and
creating an emergency kit to help you through tough times.
o Water
o Non-perishable food
o Flashlight
o First aid kit (alcohol, bandages, painkillers, antibiotic,
antiseptic, etc.)
o Radio
o Batteries for the flashlight and radio
o Personal hygiene items
o Cash
