Macbeth Trading Cards Multimodal Assignment

Throughout our study of William Shakespeare, The Tragedy of Macbeth, and accompanying
texts, we will design trading cards for the authors and characters we encounter.

You will compose a collection of 10 cards total that illustrate your understanding and
analysis of the authors, the texts, and the characters in Macbeth, specifically how they
develop over the course of the text. You might consider including how Shakespeare draws on reference
materials to develop the plot and characters, or how the texts are related, such as “The Prince” excerpts by
Machiavelli and Macbeth by Shakespeare.

Must-Haves:
● 5 cards
○ 1 must be Shakespeare (could use the introduction article)
○ 1 must illustrate learning from the other introduction articles
■ King James, Queen Elizabeth, The Globe Theater, Holinshed’s Chronicles
○ 1 must illustrate “The Prince” (what makes a good leader?) or Machiavelli
○ 2 must be Macbeth or Lady Macbeth to illustrate their character development (could do 2 for both of
them for a total of 4 cards)
● At least two different modes

Choices:
● You get to choose the modes used and how you compose and present your cards, as well as the 5 remaining
cards needed to complete your collection. These will likely be other characters in Macbeth, but if you’re
unsure, just ask.
● Consider including interests or hobbies, likes and dislikes, relationships and enemies, skills

Modes:
● Aural (EX: sounds of war, sleep talking, ghosts, spoken quotes or
monologues, theme song, etc.)
● Visual (GIFs, images, or hand drawn illustrations of people and/or
symbols; attention to font)
● Alphabetic (name, written quotes, stats, characteristics, hobbies,
strengths, weaknesses, title, relationships, etc.)
