THESIS PROPOSAL
Fall 2020

I plan to include two-three works in the show.

1. Pillow is a small, free standing rectangular prism shape made of stained glass and solder. It’s
dimensions are 2 ft long, by 1 ½ ft tall, and ½ foot wide.
(Pillow may be left out of the show, depending upon completion of “Throw”).

2. (*In progress) Umbrella Is a human scale stained glass umbrella on a welded steel armature.
Based off the exact dimensions of a golf umbrella, it is about 4 ft tall by 5 ft wide.

3. Throw – A stained glass blanket tossed carelessly over a deconstructed chair. Dimensions are
not available at this time, as I have not started this piece yet. The chair will be deconstructed to
its wooden base structure (appearing like a line drawing) and the stained glass will be soldered
together with a copper armature to form the undulating blanket form that spans to the floor.

Special installations:
I hope that it will be possible to install all three works near enough to the windows. It is
important to have direct light like the windows (ambient or soft lighting situations are not ideal)
to ensure that the maximum amount of color reflection is possible to the surrounding areas
(floor, pedestal, etc.)
For Pillow and Throw, I see these set on a wide, low pedestal in conversation with each other.
Both are forms of comfort and represent components of a living room or types of comfort sans
bodies.

Finally, I like the idea of “Umbrella” set close to the entrance/door. As if someone set it there
on the way in, to allow it to dry.
