Welcome to Theatre

“Love the art in yourself, not yourself in the art”-Stanislavsky

Ms. Lauren Akers

Hello, I am Ms. Akers and I am so excited to have your child in
my class. In this class we will explore different elements of
theatre and also create and produce various art from performances
to designs. I am a graduate from Texas State University with a
BFA in Theatre Performance and production. I have performed
and worked in several productions throughout 12 years. I am a
mother, creator, and leader. I hope to inspire your child to reach
for the stars and they can indeed meet the expectations I set for
them.

Classroom Procedures:
My expectations for class are set high. The students will actively participate in class either as a
Performer, Crew member, Audience, Designer, Critic, etc. I fully believe that they can use their
creativity to produce great work. I expect them to be prompt and ready when they come to class
with all materials they need for that day (if not already provided by myself). They will be in class
and NOT on their phones (unless directed to). Theatre is a collaborative art form and it’s
craftsmen need to be focused on working together to create something special.

Grading:
100-90 = A Late work may be turned in but 5 points will be deducted each day
89-80 = B on the 4th day they will no longer be accepted. If there is missing
79-70 = C work due to absence the student will need to come and speak to
69-60 = D me as soon as possible, so we may make a plan for them to catch up.
59-0 = F Performance/Projects/Test= 50% Class work/HW=25% Participation=25%
Semester Exams= 20% of total grade
