CHAPTER 5 - WIN

DEFINITION AND CHARACTERISTICS, SOUL WINNERS AND PRACTICAL ADVICE

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of

life, and he who is wise wins souls.”
(Proverbs 11:30)

“People’s salvation is the
burning desire of God’s heart.”

2
THE FIRST STEP TO SUCCESS!

As I explained before, winning is the first

step on the Ladder of Success, as it
allows us to reach people for Christ so
that we can then consolidate, disciple
and send them.
3
WIN : What is it and what is its purpose?

Win is the first step on the Ladder of

Success and the purpose is to reach new
people, through the preaching of the
gospel, so that they can give their lives to
Jesus and accept Him as their personal Lord
and Savior.
4
WIN : When does it begin?

When we meet people who do not

yet know Jesus and we determine
to share the message of salvation
with them.
5
WIN : When does it end?
(Evidence that a person has been won)

• Conviction of sin: The person understands that they have been separated from the
glory of God and accept that they need a Savior. This conviction comes through the
Holy Spirit and produces genuine repentance.
• Faith in Christ: This means that the person understands that Jesus is the Son of God
and that only through Him and the work of the cross (His death and resurrection) can
they receive forgiveness of sins, eternal life and reconciliation with the Father.
• Repentance and a desire to change: This means that the person experiences deep
sorrow for having failed God and longs for a change of life.
• Spiritual awakening: This means that the person has begun to form essential spiritual
habits, including meeting with other Christians, reading the Word and prayer.
6
WIN : What is at the heart of Winning?

Even though there are many number of excellent strategies for winning, the
key to win is the team of 12: the team needs to be complete and have the
right people.

We can see in the example of the Early Church that multiplication only
began when the apostles replaced Judas and completed the team with the
right people. Once the team of 12 was established, the Holy Spirit fell on
them and they were able to reach the multitudes with ease. (Acts 1&2).
7
Other foundational aspects

In order to successfully win, there are several other

foundational aspects to consider:
• Working through the network of cells.
• Evangelistic strategies for conquest.
• The character of a soul winner.

8
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO WIN SOULS?

• Because Jesus paid a high price

“Knowing that you were redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from
your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood,
as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18-19).
• Because every soul is important to God
“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?”
(Mark 8:36)
A soul is more valuable than anything else in creation; the true value of which is
incalculable.
9
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO WIN SOULS?

• Because it is the mission Jesus left us

“Go, therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded
you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20).
• Because we are all indebted
Paul considered himself indebted to the gospel of Christ, and to all people. He understood
that Jesus had redeemed him and for this season he gave his whole heart to preaching
and did not rest until he had filled the whole world with the gospel.
“I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the
foolish.” (Romans 1:14). 10
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF WINNING

Winning is a privilege
“Those who have the insight will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of
heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and
ever” (Daniel 12:3).
Being able to preach the gospel is the greatest privilege we have as believers. It
allows us to continue the work that Jesus started when He was on the earth. Daniel
teaches us that those who lead many to righteousness (through the preaching of the
gospel) will shine brightly for eternity.

11
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF WINNING

Winning is an act of humility

“Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He
existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the
likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by
becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:5-8).
Jesus left His throne of glory and became a man in order to be able to grant us
eternal redemption. In doing this, He left us the greatest example. In order to
connect with the needs of the people, we must leave our comfort zones and be
willing to always go the extra mile. 12
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF WINNING

Winning is a demonstration of love

“Let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul
from death and will cover a multitude of sins” (James 5:20).
The burning desire of God’s heart is people’s salvation. I believe that reaching others
for Christ is the greatest demonstration of the love we have for God and for our
neighbor. Remember that Jesus said to Peter, “If you love me, take care of my
lambs” (John 21:15-27, author’s paraphrase).

13
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF WINNING

Winning is a necessity
“For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for I am under compulsion; for
woe is me if I do not preach the gospel. For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward;
but if against my will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me” (1 Corinthians 9:16-17).
The apostle Paul fully understood that preaching the gospel was his most important
mission. Have you taken the time to see how great the need around you is? You do
not have to go far to meet wounded people, broken families, young people without
purpose, etc. Our society is crying out for hope and restoration, and the good news
is that you have what they need: Jesus!
14
SOUL WINNERS

We can all win someone when the opportunity arises,

but this is very different from being a soul winner. A
soul winner is someone who has transformed winning
into a lifestyle. To complete the Great Commission, we
cannot simply settle for winning people every now
and then, we need to win every day.
15
Understanding our calling

“I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise

and to the foolish” (Romans 1:14).

Paul considered himself under obligation to preach the gospel of Christ to

everyone, and without feeling shame he gave his all for the gospel. When
we have experienced Jesus for ourselves, we understand that the greatest
longing of God’s heart is that we might bring salvation to many lives.

If you want to be a soul winner, you need to keep the following things in mind:
16
A personal experience of redemption:

A soul winner needs to be free (redeemed) in order to bring freedom to others.

To be able to experience the fullness of redemption, we must comprehend the
power that there is in the blood of Jesus, and confess this out loud every day.
The fullness of redemption is found in the blood of Jesus.

If you do not know how to pray, applying the blood of Jesus in the right way, I would
like to invite you to read my book, Just One Drop of the Blood of Jesus. This book is a
practical manual about how to pray using each one of the seven times Jesus shed His
blood, through which He obtained victory over the enemy.

17
Compassion for the lost:

Some people think that compassion means feeling bad for the condition
that others are in. However, genuine compassion always compels us to
leave our comfort zone in order to preach the gospel. We should have the
same attitude as Jesus: “Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in
Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard
equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the
form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found
in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the
point of death, even death on a cross” (Philippians 2:5-8).
18
Love the Word and study it responsibly:

It is a leader’s responsibility to bring words of

life to new believers. For this reason, we need
to prepare like good soldiers, so that we can
correctly handle the Word of God that we
release power and miracles in our ministry.
19
Be filled with the Holy Spirit:

The fullness of the Spirit comes as a result of

our faith in Jesus and our complete surrender
to Him. Even Jesus did not begin the work of
the ministry without the help of the Holy Spirit,
so neither should we.
20
Be an example and a good testimony:

We should be very careful about how we live

and the example we set. We cannot be like
those who teach one thing, but demonstrate
something completely different through their
actions.
21
Be faithful to the Vision:

One of the main purposes of a leader is to

reproduce the Vision. That is why faithfulness
to the Vision is a distinctive feature of a soul
winner.

22
PRACTICAL ADVICE
1. Be patient and loving
Sometimes when people meet with a new believer, they expect them to behave
like a pastor from the very beginning, forgetting that the person does not know
the Lord’s ways and is seeking direction. Think about the example Jesus gave us;
He spent three years forming each one of His disciples, teaching them with
patience and showing them the right way, even when they made mistakes.

The last thing a new person needs when they first get to church is to be told off,
to be given heavy burdens or to feel judged. Make every effort to always treat
people with the love, wisdom, and direction that come from God. Sow good
things into them and in time you will see them become men and women of God. 23
PRACTICAL ADVICE

2. Use spiritual weapons

The ministry is not something we can conquer in the natural
realm; we need to take ground using the spiritual weapons the
Lord has given us: fasting, prayer and the blood of Jesus.

May your plans be as big and powerful as the ministry you long to have!
24
PRACTICAL ADVICE

3. Work as a team
My wife has a powerful prophetic declaration that she often
uses: “If there is a team, there is conquest.” This is a great
truth. Being part of a team will make the work easier and
distribute the weight more evenly, as well as reinforcing each
person’s gift.
