WHAT ARE CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS?

Construction materials are substances or basic items used in building a structure.

Such materials are;

*Aggregate * Steel *Cement * Polyvinyl chloride

whether plasticized or plasticized

*Clay * Bamboo *Aluminium * Wrought iron

*Plywood * Polyethylene *Plastic * Sand

Many naturally occurring substances, such as clay, rocks, sand and wood, even twigs and leaves,

have been used to construct buildings. Apart from naturally occurring materials, many man-made

products are in use, some more and some less synthetic.

They are primary substances that make up majority of the structural components of a building or

elemental structure.

Any discarded material from the building or destruction of structures, road and bridges including
rocks, asphalt etc. can be broadly classified as a construction material.

All building materials / construction materials can be used to create a quality structure, but
depends on how they are used in construction.

Some say that in broad terms construction materials may include manufactured products such as
components, fittings, items of equipment and systems; naturally occurring materials such as
stone, timber and thatch in connection with building work but in a more narrower definition we
might exclude components, manufactured products, fittings and items of equipment.
