Installing your Wordpress

theme and plugin

Cheat Sheet
1. It is assumed you have your own domain. If not, get a domain
name at Go Daddy – they are one of the cheapest and largest
domain name providers on the Internet.

(sometimes you can snap up a domain for less than USD3!)

2. It is also assumed that you have your own host for your blog or
website. If not, I highly recommend Bluehost. You can host an
unlimited number of domains for as little as USD4.95 a month! They
also have a great live support system. Their C-Panel is super easy
to use and you can literally install a Wordpress site in less than 5
minutes flat.

3. Ok, once you have your domain and host all set-up you can install
your theme and plugins in Wordpress. The instructions below
assume you have your theme(s) and plugin(s) saved on your
computer or external hard-disk.

4. Installing your new theme in Wordpress.

i) Click on the “Appearances” link on the left hand side of the

screen. The screen below will appear.

ii) Click on Install button as indicated below.

5. This screen will then appear. Press on the “Upload” link.

6. This screen will appear. Press the “Choose File” button. You will
then be asked to select the file you want to install as the new theme.
Ensure it is in *.zip format before you upload it. Wordpress only
accepts files in this format. You can download WinZip for free on the
Internet.

7. After you select your *.zip file, press install now.

8. The file will upload and install and then this screen appears
acknowledging the installation was successful:
 Make sure you press the “Activate” link otherwise the theme will not
be properly activated. You will be brought back to the main
Appearances page and this new installed theme will overwrite your
previous ones (although you should still be able to see previously
installed themes on the Appearances main page).

9. Voila! Your new theme is installed and ready to go. Now to install
the plugins . . .

10. Click on the “Plugins” link on the left hand side and this screen
appears. Click on the “Add New” button.

11. The Install Plugins screen will then appear. Click on the “Upload”
link.

12. Similar to the installation of the themes, you will also be asked to
select your file in *.zip format.

13. After the plugin has been uploaded and installed you will see this
success screen. Remember to press the Activate link to complete
the installation and activation of the plugin.

14. And that’s it! Your theme and plugin has been successfully
installed and you are ready to go. How easy and fast was that?!
