General Guidelines for Dilution of Scale Inhibitors

It is preferred to dose antiscalants neat. However, in some cases dilution might be

necessary due to the capacity of the antiscalant dosage pump.

The guidelines below should be followed.

1. Use only RO permeate water for the dilution of the antiscalant.

2. Prepare a fresh antiscalant solution every 3-5 days.

3. Inspect the antiscalant tank before adding the new solution. If needed, the
antiscalant tank should be cleaned prior to filling.

4. Dilution rates up to factor 4 are typically applied. Higher dilution factors require
more attention with respect to the condition of the antiscalant tank (cleaning) and
preparation of a new solution (every 1-3 days).

For systems using PC-191 or PC-191T which require dilution, consider the diluted
version, PC-391 or PC-391T, to avoid the need to dilute make up a day tank for on-
site dilution.

5. In case of the antiscalants PermaTreat PC- 191, PermaTreat PC-391 and

PermaTreat PC-510 (and there traced versions):

6. NaOH can be added to the dilution to increase the pH to 10-11. This is especially
recommended for warm environments.

It is recommended that a maximum dilution ratio of 10:1 should not be exceeded for
antiscalant solutions.

At this maximum dilution ratio, it is imperative that the guidelines listed under points
1, 2, 3 & 6 are carefully followed.
