Why should most of your research be done before asking someone for an

interview?
One should conduct a thorough research before asking someone for an interview for various reasons. One reason
is that, the person to be conducting an interview should first know what the content/topic of the interview he/she is
going to make. The interviewer not only has to know his/her content/topic but also the scope of it. It should be clear
to the interviewer the scope or limit of the topic to prevent the interview from getting out of hand or prevent it from
being too “scattered”. It will also help him/her to stick only to the topic/content—so if ever the interviewee were to
get further from the topic, the interviewer will know and will be able to do something to prevent it or redirect the flow
of the interview to the supposed topic/content. The interviewer should also be knowledgeable himself/herself about
the topic/issues that he/she is going to ask about so that he/she can make more appropriate and interesting
questions. Once the interviewer gained complete understanding of his topic/content/issues/questions, he/she will
then have a better picture of the kinds of people that he/she would want to interview. Picking the right people to ask
is very crucial for the success of the interview so the criteria for choosing interviewees should also be thoroughly
planned and researched. One wouldn’t want the whole interview to be biased or the questions be poorly answered
especially since all the efforts that the interviewer put in his/her research would only go to waste if these happened
so this much preparation wouldn’t hurt. Now, what would happen if all these preparations (research, planning, and
such) were done the opposite way (post-interview)? Obviously, if the interviewer doesn’t know what he is asking
about, not only will his/her interview be more likely to fail, but also, he/she will most likely to embarrass him/her self.
Also, even if the interviewer realizes the mistakes done after the interview, there really isn’t much he/she can do
anymore to correct them since the interview is already done. That’s why most of your research should be done
before you even think of asking someone for an interview, and then, you can make some more “additional”
research after because why not?
