Guide to using this sheet

This student budget sheet is designed to help you create and track a budget for an entire year. You can choose between track
spending monthly or weekly.

You can play around with it straight away to make predictions and work out where you could potentially save or earn more. I
apparent, for example, that surviving just on your student loan isn't possible. It's essential to plan ahead.

Throughout the year you can then keep track of your actual spending to see if it matches your predicitions.

1. You can edit/create/delete categories

Be careful that this doesn't mess up the formulas. You can try copying an entire row and then inserting it above another row.
formulas are set up to allow this type of editing.

2. Make sure you verify the totals manually at the start

3. Modify the month/week headings as needed to be in line with your start date.

4. Enter your beginning balance at the top of the sheet to replace the 1000 currently in there.

5. Filling in the income and expenses

a. You can copy and paste cells if needed

b. You need to choose whether to include large lump payments like your student loan in lump sums when they're paid in
approach of averaging the cost across each month. When using the averaging approach, consider that your actual balance m
the predicted balance for the month. If you use the lump payment approach, it may be easier to compare actual balances, bu
you have enough saved.

c. Add cell comments as needed to help explain costs (eg. Birthday present for X)

Updating the worksheet

After a month has passed:

1. Enter your Actual Balance at the top of the worksheet.

2. If the actual balance is much different from the prediction, try to figure out why, and you

may want to adjust your worksheet to reflect what you actually received and spent.

3. The Actual Balance will then move over to the next month as your new starting balance
