OTM, or Oracle Transportation Management, enables organizations to meet their customer

User Access
nly
O
OTM’s global, multi-domain data model enables multiple customers secure access to their
e
individual information.
s
User access is granted through the use of a User Role. A User Role controls the data each user
U
AI
can access as well as functional security for that user within OTM. With the appropriate setup,
a user can toggle between multiple roles without logging in and out of OTM.

Buy vs. Sell Shipments
nly
O
Buy vs. Sell Shipments
se
• Buy shipment: Oracle client ABC Wholesalers tenders freight to Carrier XYZ. Carrier
XYZ then bills ABC Wholesalers for the service of moving the freight.
I U
• Sell shipment: Oracle client 123 3PL plans the transportation for Shipper 456 and then
OA
bills Shipper 456 for planning the movement of their freight.
&
Because of these two types of shipments, often you need to define whether a rate, for example,
l
a
is a Buy perspective or a Sell perspective. Rates that are buy perspective are used for creating
ern
buy shipments, whereas rates that are a sell perspective are used for billing purposes.
Int
It is only who is buying or selling transportation services that matter. E.g., As a shipper, you
can sell goods on a buy shipment.

OTM Domains

Within the database, OTM consists of one or more client defined domains. The domains share
the database tables, but the domains own the rows. This defines each domain’s access.
Different users can see and use different data. For example,

• Service provider A can only see their rates and shipments.

When you click on a menu option, in most instances you are automatically taken to a search page
where you can enter criteria to run a query for an existing business object or create a new
business object, such as locations, orders, rates, or service providers. For example, when you
click on the Location menu option, OTM displays a search page.
1. Click Transportation Planning and Execution > Shipment Management > Buy Shipments.
Each tab has text fields on which you can query. Certain fields have f, n, l and v buttons to
their right:
• n (new) allows you to create a new object, if you have the authorization to do so.
• l (list) displays a list of all records for a certain object. Also, if you enter some
characters in the field and click l, OTM displays all records beginning with those
characters.
• v (view) displays details on a record you have typed into the text field.
Conditional operators, such as begins with, ends with, not null, etc. let you further define the
ly
criteria entered in that field.
The following links are available at the bottom of the search page:
On
•
se
Search – allows you to search for all records meeting the defined criteria
I U
• New – creates a new object, such as location, etc.
OA

2. Enter a Destination Location ID of HD plus a space.
cle
When you type the first three characters of an ID, you see a listing of all possible location
ra
IDs that begin with HD space. This feature, called autocomplete, is enabled by a global
O
property glog.ui.autocomplete.
Once you query on a location, OTM displays the results page listing all the records that meet
your search criteria specified on the query page. Unless you specify a domain in your query,
the results include all data to which you have at least read access.
4. Click Search.
• At the top of the results screen you see the following links:
− New - allows you to create a new location.
− View - displays the selected record(s) in view only format.
− Edit - displays the record with open fields for editing, if you have the access to edit
the record.
− Delete - deletes the record.
− Actions - allow you to perform certain actions against the business object.
• To the right of the actions link, you see a drop down list containing the following:
− Replace Current Window – upon selection, overwrites the current window.
− Always Open in New Window – upon selection, always open in new window.
− Always Open in Same Window – this option assumes there is one other window that
will always be the target window. If that window is currently open, upon selection,
replace the content of that window with what you click. If the target window is not
open, open a window with the new content.
• At the bottom of the results list, you see the following links:
− New query – returns to a blank search page.
− Refine query – returns to the search page and keeps the values you had entered.
− Export – opens the values on the results page in MS Excel.

Throughout this course, you will be adding new data to OTM and editing existing data in OTM.
When creating new records in OTM, the following should be taken into account:
• When adding a record, the ID of the record should not contain special characters such as
periods, commas, or ampersands. Underscores can be used.
• You must go in order when completing the record and cannot skip from one tab to the
next and then back again. If you forget to input information on a previous tab, complete
the record entirely, click Finish, and then return and edit the record to add the additional
information.
• Never use the browser back button when creating a new record. Data may be lost.
• When adding a record, always click Finished when the record is complete to save the
data. Otherwise data is lost. The Finished button will not display until all required
fields for the record have been entered.
• Required fields are denoted by a red *. Conditional fields are denoted by a blue * and
are only required if other data is present.
• Some data entry grids offer the ability to have multiple entries and require you to click a
Save button after each entry.
ly
• Make sure you only click the Finished button once, as OTM will attempt to save
multiple records if clicked more than once.

An order base represents a production order, open purchase orders, or detailed orders.

What is Manual Modification?
se
To minimize manual changes to the shipment plan, it is important to keep your business rules
and parameters up-to-date in OTM so that OTM makes the optimal decision for your business
process.
I U
OA
• For example, if your distribution center changes its hours from a 24/7 operation to hours
of Monday – Friday 6:00AM – 3:00PM, you need to update the calendar so OTM plans
l
feasible shipments. &
na
An alternative to modifying shipments is to modify you order constraints and re-plan your

orders.
