ABSTRACT

Labour migration to refers to the movement of wage earners from areas of subsistence
agriculture to areas of wage employment, both in the agricultural and industrial sectors of the
economy in colonial Zambia The experiences of the young men in Nyamphance Village made
them to go out and seek jobs, these factors include needing money for lobola, money for medical
treatment, money to pay for tax that was demanded and introduced by the colonial masters.
These factors were so strong that they Africans did not mind being harshly treated by the white
masters.

The research used both qualitative and quantitative method to collect data. For primary data
collection, the structured questionnaires and investigative guides were used. Secondary data was
collected from literature sources such as text books, documents, archives and journals. The
results of the research showed that there are a number of causes for the labour migration that
happened in Nyamphance Village.
