MN SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT #2

Paper Topic: Reflexivity paper focusing the sector of Science and Technology in the
center of COVID 19 pandemic. There are a lot of underlying issues and problems that
we are facing right now.

Audience: Science, Technology and Society Professor

I. Introduction:

The pandemic COVID-19 and with such crisis exposed different problems in the
Philippines as well as issues that depicts the weaknesses and loopholes in our
economy and different sectors in our country.

II. Body

Main Point: The incompetency of the Philippine industry in producing PPEs (mask,
gloves, medical suit, etc.) and some medical apparatus to support medical health
practitioners

Examples/Details/Explanations:

a) lack of our country in resources to produce materials or products


b) reliance on the exportations of materials needed from other countries.

Main Point: Lack of support of our government in scientists and technologists needed
for generating projects and innovation for the COVID-19

Examples/Details/Explanations:

a) students from University of the Philippines and other school that generate test
kits for patients but was disregarded
b) we not investing enough resources in science and technology (S&T) human
resource development, research and development (R&D), and physical
infrastructures
c) rather did support more the foreign materials than ours
III. Conclusion Reworded Thesis (Usually found near the beginning of the
conclusion):

The Philippines is still not ready for the Industrial Revolution and remains
incompetent. As a result, we suffer from low industrial and agricultural productivity,
overall inefficiency, and a meager output of knowledge products, such as scientific
publications, patents, and innovations.

Clincher Ideas:

Without Science, Technology and Innovation (STI): we will not be competitive;


we will continue to suffer great damage from natural disasters, environmental
degradation and climate change; and we will continue to be poor.
