n preponderant cumbia with "metal airs" and it is only that until 1994 its presence

within the Mexican black market was reflected more clearly due to the diffusion
through illegal copies in compact cassette, made through, Los Sonideros de la
Ciudad de México that the material of the group is known, although Infopesa already
had agreements with the North American company Discos Peerless broadcasting to
other Peruvian groups, it did not include the "Continental Quartet" in any
production, if it included other groups such as "Sexteto Internacional" within
their repertoire, but, the "Cuarteto Continental", apparently, never mentioned
Mexico as dedication in most of their recordings, except only, in a couple of
subjects of null knowledge in the country Azteca, despite recording songs from that
northern country, they did not spread to that country.

During 1994, the Cumbia Andina Mexicana was born in the North American country
under the presence of the group from the "City of the Gods", Teotihuacán called Los
Askis, a group that merged Andean folklore and cumbia in Mexico, although It is not
known whether the belated success eight years after the "Cuarteto Continental" had
disintegrated, would give influence or not towards a successful re-recording, the
song "Adiós Paloma", for the nascent group Los Askis and the nascent variant style.
of Cumbia mexicana, the so-called "Cumbia Andina Mexicana" would or would not give
Los Askis success (a fact that is still controversial) since, in parallel with the
re-recording of the group "Los Askis", the The success of the "Cuarteto
Continental", but what is known is that Los Askis made popular in Mexico the theme
of the Cuarteto Continental "Adiós Paloma" that would be re-recorded by the North
American group through synthesizers with accordion effect, but as said before It is
not known if the merit goes to Los Askis as a re-recording (of the Continental
Quartet), or the diffusion on the black market by the Sonideros of the Mexican
capital and its extension to the interior of the country and the United States
that, as mentioned, broke into in the Mexican market, both versions surpassing in
popularity a version very little known in the country of the song "Adiós Paloma"
that arrived years before in 1992 through "Sonido La Changa" recorded by "Combo
Palacio" or "Virtuosos de the Salsa "from Peru extracted from LP and distributed on
cassette in the black market of Tepito.

It is thus, without a doubt, one of the contributions and influences given, in

conjunction, with the musical ideas of the folklorists members of Los Askis at the
birth of the Cumbia Andina Mexicana under the stele of the Continental Quartet
together with the folklore of Bolivia, Chile, Peru. and Ecuador.

Years later, the successes of the Continental Quartet in Mexico would drip, again,
through the illegal market, since the record company, Infopesa had made a pause in
the Peruvian market, even songs such as "Adiós Paloma" would be broadcast by radio
broadcasters in the northern country, but it is unknown with which company Televisa
Radio and Núcleo Radio Mil acquired the rights to broadcast it after Infopesa's
momentary pause, although it is likely that the material had been stored since the
previous decade without broadcasting it [citation needed] . Although many times the
sources of the songs broadcast by Mexican radio were provided directly by the
sonideros of Mexico under their seal and sponsorship, mentioning them as "successes
of the changa" or any other sound extracted from the LPs acquired in South America,
mainly Colombia.

In the second half of the 80's, Los Continentales, a concept derived from the
Continental Quartet under the voice of its former vocalist César Prado, had already
a guaranteed success in 1986, it would be one among many groups like Los Mirlos
that would give influence to the current Cumbia Villera of Argentina. , fusion
among others of the Mexican cumbia sonidera, Peruvian Cumbia and the Argentine
cumbia itself, thus within the environment of Mexican cumbia sonidera, the theme
"El carbonero" from Los Continentales would be modified by extracting some sounds
and inserting others used so that its sound was more adapted to the DJs of
Argentina and Mexico accentuating the sound of the inserted guacharaca.
Musical legacy
The legacy of Alberto Maraví's project was undoubtedly the integration of the
greatest talent of Cumbia vocalists and musicians from the time of the Andean
country, the retakes and combination and innovations of the group's arrangers and
electronic instrumentation, under the pure Colombian style of Colombian cumbia, the
integration of repertoires from different American countries and from other
countries on the continent, together with the definition of the "cuartetero style"
of the cumbia (played with an accordion), the concept taken from the continuous
combined cumbias called "Cumbias pegaditas" influence towards other groups and
countries as a musical legacy towards even the landde la Cumbia, Colombia through
"Cuarteto Universal", under the compositions of mythical Peruvian composers such as
Walter León, Jorge Chávez Malaver, among many others from the Andean country,
moreover, it was the trigger for, as mentioned before, the creation of derived
groups among which appeared, Universal Quartet, Claudio Morán and Los Universales
Quartet, Los Continental, Julio Mau and his Imbatible Quartet, International
Sextet, Continent Quartet and Phantom Group based on the "Quartet Style" a way of
calling the Cumbia Vallenata (cumbia with diatonic accordion), as well as listening
to a different form of classic cumbias.

Attempted fraud and usurpation

Towards the beginning of 2009 the so-called "The new new Continental Quartet" by
Walter Dolorier was formed, which does not have a license or permission from the
Infopesa del Peru record company or Alberto Maraví Chombo (current owner of the
name) to make use of the name registration, nor be mentioned as "Cuarteto
Continental", "El Cuarteto Continental" or any other variant that profits from the
catalog and work carried out by Industria Fonográfica Peruana SA of that group, Mr.
Walter Dolorier tried to register his fraudulent musical group with the name of
"The new new Continental Quartet", which in practice refers to exactly the same
thing, but the Peruvian intellectual property entity INDECOPI denied the
registration, 4

On the other hand, the formation of this musical group does not make at all any new
contribution to the current musical style and scene, it only reinterprets and
commercially exploits through "Rosita Producciones" one of the many small
independent producers on a low scale that arise from the The giants Infopesa, Sono
Radio and Discos Horóscopo, from the material recorded by the original "Cuarteto
Continental", does not gather at all any musician or singer of those who formed the
original group, nor does it dress up as the disappeared original group (this new
formation dresses in the manner of Mexican musical groups), so in practice, this
new formation has nothing to do at all with the group of the 80's and rather its
objective is solely, to take advantage of the musical success that it had and still
has the Ollantay Music catalog of the group in several countries (as it currently
does) for its exploitation for its own benefit by promoting it on various pages of
internet advertisements from various countries, using the name of the "Continental
Quartet" adding only the prefix "The new new", this is done on websites mainly in
Mexico and Colombia, notices for hiring highlighting at all times its manager
Walter Dolorier , as a particular case, it also vandalized the Wikipedia article
Continental Quartet that is documented in the history of this article itself,
eliminating relevant information from its creator, placing its own name, whose
changes were reverted, in addition to taking advantage of its introduction due to
the little diffusion among current Cumbia music fans who know the music of the
original Continental Quartet, but do not know who were the producers, musicians,
singers and technicians who intervened for the original productions of so much
roots in Peru and various countries, which still they enjoy this success of the
"Authentic Continental Quartet of Alberto Maraví".

Faced with this fraud, the owner of the Continental Quartet, Mr. Alberto Maraví
filed a complaint at INDECOPI against Walter Dolorier, resulting in the defendant
being issued a precautionary measure and ordering the definitive cessation of his
illegal acts. .5 Likewise, the defendant and Walter Dolorier have been SENTENCED6
by the Peruvian Justice for FRAUDULENTLY USURPARING the name of the Continetal
Quartet, a group that belongs to Mr. Alberto Maraví.

In 1996, a small tape recorder located in San Pedro de los Pinos in Mexico City was
released under the Spartacus Discos label. A CD with the theme "Adiós Paloma",
embedded with other Mexican groups of the time, was titled "Ritmo and trop
flavorAndean ical "being this the only song on the CD that does not fit within the
concept of" Andean "since the CD contained various interpretations in Cumbia Andina
Mexicana, as well as themes of pure South American folklore.

The CD had little circulation and diffusion due to the size of the company and it
is discontinued, several copies survive in the United States and Canada,
highlighting that said recording was not obtained from the master tapes nor was it
treated for the elimination of natural noise of LP reproduction from which it was
extracted and / or remasterized. In this CD the authorship of the song "La paloma"
(confused with "Adiós Paloma") is assigned to the Spanish Sebastián Yradier by
mistake since it has a composition with the title "La paloma" composed in the 19th
century during the year 1860 with Completely different lyrics and that is how it
was printed on the CD, although the original authorship of the song performed by
the Continental Quartet is registered in the name of the Peruvian Manuel Ángel
Mantilla Paredes, however the CD retains the name of the interpreter as
"Continental Quartet".

So far, two CDs have been released in South America, the first with songs by the
group, together with Venezuelan groups such as Emir Boscán and Pastor López, Nelson
Henríquez, Colombians such as Alfredo Gutiérrez, Policarpo Calle and other Peruvian
groups such as Combo Palacio.

The second CD released in December 2007 shares credits with mythical groups such as
Lisandro Meza himself who will re-record some hits such as "These Pillao" and
"Cumbia de Oriente" and the inclusion of various musical rhythms among which are,
Cumbia, Paseo, Salsa, Merengue, Son and Mexican Northern Music with Alegres de la
Sierra, where the company licensed to do so in Colombia is Universal Music de
Colombia and contained in the Maximosaico 2008 (Inside the CD it is inside the so-
called "Maximosaico 7 Tropical 3" ).

A third cumbia compilation is being marketed in Mexico released in 2008 that

integrates the song "Llorando se fue" in the voice of Julio Mau Orlandini embedded
in a quadruple album appearing on two CDs, at No. 3 as a single track and on the
CD. No. 4 in a mix called "Sony, Non Stop mix de Cumbias", it includes songs from
other Peruvian groups under license from the now defunct company Industria
Fonográfica Peruana SA
