Via solenoid control valves and PLC systems the units are ‘operated by hydraulic cylinders and accumulator KARM FORK™ “The Kamm Fork™ has been developed by Karmey Winch AVS through extended contact withthe user in the North Sea and with special attention to the safety aspect. Several oll companies has stated that the Karm Towingpin unit must be used when performing work for them. ‘The special horizontal locking plats ae avery important part ofthe towingpins. The plates locks over the wire asthe pins ae run upwards. Ifa towing operations gives an upward angle, the plates will prevent the wire / chain from escaping fom the towing pins. This will also minimise the wire {ravel along the stem when the ship i turning, Both these points makes the Karm system safe to use. ‘The flaps are constructed in a high tensile material. WINER KOPERVIK, NORWAY conrRoLs ‘The standard controls forthe Karm Fork" & Towingpin unit consists of a raster panel for installation onthe bridge, and a slave panel for installation in a waterproof box on the cagoral, ‘When pushing the control buttons signals are transmited to the valve panels via the PLC uni All switches are of pushbutton type for sey. ‘To operate the Fork/Pins the button must be pushed down continuously The pane also includes start/stop of power pack and quick release / emergency and deadship operation. Light indicators for Main Emergency System and OK /Fallure ate also placed in the panels Note that the PLC unit automatically stops the powerpack 20 minutes after the last operation hasbeen performed. (Option: 5,10 and 25 minutes) QUICK RELEASE ‘The Units supplied with a quick release / emergency operation, The KARM™ system operates with an hydraulic accumulator as backup power. The accumulator is continuously charged with hydrauli pressure from the system ‘during normal use. Ifa power failure occurs the accumulated energy will be used to perform release of the Fork/ Pins. However to perform this release the ships 24V battery backup must be operational. The accumblator contains ‘enough energy to release/retract Fork and o open the towingnins. ‘The accumulator can also be used when sytem i fully operational. Used together with the power pack the speed willbe doubled, Ref Sect. 5.10 for more deals. INSERTS ‘The KARM FORK™ can accommodate a wide range of wire / Chain dimensions. This is achieved by changing sso called w-insert inside the fork. This is easily done by bolting it with one bolts only. Refer to sect for etl of the various sizes.
