GLOBAL ISSUES THAT CONCERN SCHOOLS AND SOCIETY

1. Based on the top ten global issues, choose two global issues and suggest what
schools must do to address the issue. (20)

School is a better place for young children to learn about negative substance usage. By raising
knowledge about the harmful consequences of substance addiction, the school can start early to prevent
kids from engaging in it. Students in the early grades, such as high school, are taught about substance
misuse through the subject of physical education and health. As a result, in a situation like this, the
teacher's involvement is crucial. You may help by clarifying common misunderstandings regarding
alcohol and other substances among students freely communicate the facts to young people regarding
drug misuse rather than lecturing or exaggerating. The schools can also have school-based drug
prevention programs which the goal of these programs is to raise knowledge about the dangers of alcohol
and other drugs, as well as how to avoid them. Moreover, schools can collaborate with rehabilitation
programs to provide care for students, allowing them to successfully reintegrate individuals who have
been harmed by substance misuse. Young people experience a variety of challenges in life that can have
an impact on their mental health as well as their use or abuse of alcohol and other drugs. Schools and
campuses should be safe places for children to study and grow. Health promotion and substance abuse
prevention activities can be extremely beneficial.

Schooling has a big influence on how kids learn, and the classroom is a great location to start
teaching them about environmental issues. When it comes to promoting awareness about environmental
issues such as pollution, adding environmental teachings in school curriculum is a good place to start.
Raising pollution awareness with the support of schools can be a good method to reduce the problem. The
school organizes additional activities to aid in environmental preservation, such as initiating a tree-
planting program at school and educating students about the importance of trees in the environment.

2. What moves has the Philippine government taken to ensure equitable access to
Education for all its citizens? (20)
The Philippine government has taken steps to ensure that all of its citizens have equal access to
education by approving Republic Act 10931, or the "Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education
Act," which was ratified by Congress in May and transmitted to the President's Office on July 5. The act
provides full tuition subsidy for students in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), local universities, and
colleges, and state-run technical-vocational schools. "Library fees, computer fees, laboratory expenses,
school ID fees, athletic fees, admission fees, development fees, advice fees, handbook prices, entrance
fees, registration fees, medical and dental fees, cultural and other similar or related fees" are among the
additional charges covered by the state law. It also develops a student loan program and gives subsidies or
stipends to underprivileged students.
