By Eric Rodda, with special guest: Simon Hackett

Tesla Roadster

The Tesla Roadster is a battery electric vehicle (BEV) sports car produced
by the electric car firm Tesla Motors in California.
The Roadster was the first highway-capable all-electric vehicle in serial
production available in the United States. Since 2008 Tesla has sold more
than 2,100 Roadsters in 31 countries through December 2011.[3] Tesla
began producing right-hand-drive Roadsters in early 2010 for the British
Isles, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.[4] The Roadster has a
base price of US$109,000 in the United States, and A$191,888 in Australia.

Tesla Roadster

The Roadster is the first production automobile to use lithium-ion battery

cells and the first production BEV (all-electric) to travel more than 200 miles
(320 km) per charge.
The world distance record of 501 km (311 miles) for a production electric car
on a single charge was set by a Roadster on October 27, 2009, Owned and
driven by Simon Hackett during the Global Green Challenge in outback
Australia, in which it averaged a speed of 25 mph (40 km/h).

Tesla Roadster

According to the U.S. EPA, the Roadster can travel 244 miles (393 km) on a
single charge of its lithium-ion battery pack, and can accelerate from 0 to 60
mph (0 to 97 km/h) in 3.7 or 3.9 seconds depending on the model.

Tesla Model S

Model S is designed and built in California.

20,000 units will be produced per year. 5,000 units will be produced in 2012.
American deliveries begin in Summer 2012.
The first 1,000 Model S vehicles delivered in the United States and the first 200 in
Canada will be Signatures. Model S Signature will come with the 85 kWh (300miles)
battery (Other battery options: 60kWh (230miles) and 30kWh (160miles).

Tesla Model X

Model X is designed from the ground up to blend the best of

an SUV with the benefits of a minivan, as only an electric car
can. It is an automobile above category, built around the
driver - and six of her friends. It artfully provides unfettered
performance and brilliant functionality.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Tesla unveiled the Model X Design prototype on February 9, 2012. It represents their
current vision for this groundbreaking vehicle. Tesla expect to begin production of
Model X in late 2013, ramping up deliveries in early 2014. Model X will be priced
comparable to a similarly equipped Model S. More details will be announced as
production nears.
Here are the vehicle configurations Tesla plan to offer:

Battery Options:
Model X will be offered with a

Infiniti Emerg-E - 400 bhp electric sports car concept

Infinit's long awaited range-extended electric sports car the

Emerg-E has been shown in Geneva and the specs we've
been awaiting are official:
• 402 bhp (300 kW),
• 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds;
• a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h);
• a 300-mile (483-km) range using the three-cylinder
range-extender with 30 miles (48 km) electric-only; CO2
output of 55 g/km (NEDC cycle).

Electric Supercars - Eric Rodda - AEVA Adelaide - March 21, 2012

Infiniti Emerg-E - 400 bhp electric sports car concept

There are two electric motors in the center of the vehicle

and they drive the rear wheels, so the intention seems to
be to create a brand hero with extraordinary dynamic
performance, so we just might see this car released. Yet
another pointer to the release of the vehicle is Infiniti's role
in the UK government's Technology Strategy Board
initiative, whose aim is to speed the arrival of low-emission
vehicles. The Emerg-E is the first Infiniti to have been
developed in Europe and its advanced technology
deliberately draws on suppliers beyond Infiniti's usual base
in "the quest to uncover the most innovative hardware and
the deepest knowledge base."

Varley EVR450: Australia’s first electric supercar

Varley EVR450: Australia’s first electric supercar

Australia’s first locally designed and manufactured electric supercar will go on sale for
less than $200,000 in January (2012).
The Varley EVR450 has been developed in just nine months by Varley Electric
Vehicles, the Brisbane-based division of the Varley Group, a 125-year-old privately
owned Australian company.
Varley says the EVR450 will accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds – making it
just one-tenth slower than the $206,188 Tesla Roadster – and will reach an
electronically limited top speed of 200km/h.
Varley is yet to confirm the EVR450’s powertrain details, however we understand the
supercar will be powered by two locally sourced Ultramotive electric motors, each
producing 150kW and 522Nm, leading to a combined maximum output of 300kW
of power and an almighty 1044Nm of torque.
Despite the awesome power, Varley says its lithium-ion battery-powered electric
supercar will have a range of 150km that can be extended to 300km when optioned
with the range-extension package.

RIMAC CONCEPT_ONE
Croatia has a supercar: it is the Rimac Concept One, the all-
electric brainchild of 23 year-old entrepreneur Mate Rimac.
To build the Concept_One, Rimac Automobili recruited a
group of ex-Pininfarina engineers and designer Adriano
Mudri to its Zagreb headquarters, tasked with creating what it
describes as the world's first electric supercar.
Power for the Concept_One is provided by four electric
motors - two at each axle - delivering 800kW and 3800Nm of
torque. Energy is provided by a sizeable 92kWh battery
pack…

Electric Supercars - Eric Rodda - AEVA Adelaide - March 21, 2012

Rimac Concept_One Puts Croatia On The
Supercar Map

…At 1650kg, it's lighter than the Bugatti Veyron and heavier
than the Pagani Huayra - two of its more obvious rivals for
outright power.
With a 0-100km/h time of 2.8 seconds, it's a hair slower
than the former (2.46), and a touch quicker than the latter
(3.2).
Top speed is listed at 305km/h - not shabby, but well short
of the Veyron's 408km/h and the Huayra's 370km/h limits.
Rimac hasn't revealed pricing for the Concept_One, but with
only 88 units planned, odds are good that it won't take long
to sell.

World’s First? Electric Supercar Taking Pre-Orders

The Li-Ion Inizio holds the distinction of being one of the first
all-electric supercars. It can hit speed up to 274km/h and
with a range of 400km. Now it’s going into production and
can be yours for $US139,000.
Li-Ion motors, the North Carolina-based electric automaker,
won $US2.5 million in the the 2010 Automotive X-Prize for
their work on their Wave II vehicle. Now, according to
Gizmag, they’re using the money to bring the Wave II and
the Inzio to market. The Inizio has three models for sale at
$US139,000, $US189,000 and $US249,000, with the
fastest Inizio model going from 0-100 in 3.4 seconds. It uses
12 batteries, comes equipped with two motors and charges
in eight hours.

World’s First? Electric Supercar Taking Pre-Orders

The Inizio's
powered by lithium-
ion batteries which
generate a power
output of more than
40kW (and a
potential upgrade
up to 96.7kW), with
an electric motor
delivering 145kW.
That gives it a
0-to-60 time of just
3.4 seconds.

The concept model has twin micro gas

turbine generators from the British
company Bladon Jets. These extends
the range from 110km all electric to a
total of 900km.
There is a 145kW electric motor at
each wheel.

The $1.15M production model (250 to be made) dispenses with the

diesel-powered turbines and instead, uses a downsized highly-boosted
petrol engine to run a generator to extend the all electric range of 50km.
