1) There can be several reasons for the carelessness towards the

quality of the toys made by the Mattel. Firstly, the sales at the end
of the 2007 were increasing rapidly in the world, so only
manufacturing at the local level they could not fulfill the demand
globally, but in doing so they forgot to implement some of the
necessary quality measures and they did not recognize the high
quantity of lead in quality checks. Moreover, spending low cost
and fast speed of manufacturing can also be the reason .But these
problems could be avoided by simply hiring the quality checking
teams.
2) In the mid of the 2007 Mattel apologized after the massive
recalls of toys near about the 21 million of toys recalled the
reason was the excessive level of the lead paint. The company
recall most of the toys for the safety purpose. Mattel committed
that they apply the highest standard of the safety for the toys.
Moreover in the end of the 2007 all the problems related to the
import and export of recall toys were resolved and make various
manufacture variations in the toys to retain the magnet of the
toys and some other changes. So, it can be concluded that their
response was appropriate and genuine and they did what was
possible and right for the customers and their company’s
reputation.
3) Mattel decided to go with the early light; they trusted them
from past fifteen years. Mattel made a corporate responsibility
division that were accountability internally and externally for
adherence to the safety of company and the way of the
compliance. According to the new polices were instituted needs
of all direct suppliers to organize the quality test on the income
material and moreover the toys which are made by the any
subcontractor.
4) In August and September 2007, Mattel industries produced a
series of toys and products recalls that affected the composition
of more than 20 million toys. This recall stated the the toys
contain lead and magnets which are becoming loose and need to
be removed. And according to the survey all of the toys were
manufactured in china. And this recall brings a great success with
affecting the Chinese manufacturing industry and as per the news
most of the recalled products were having issue with magnets.
And the worst consequences and the most dangerous cases were
due to the bad quality of paints used by the small shops.
5) As per the survey Mattel is recognized as one of the largest
manufacturing industry in the world with the headquarters
situated in America. As according to the science lead is considered
very poisonous for human consumption due to which company
had face many issues in 2008 as the toys they were manufacturing
at that time contains high amount of lead due to which a lot of
hate was spread and company had to recall the toys. Also there
were no warning signs or description that can let parents know
that the toys were containing harmful substance and should be
taken with care and kids were playing with these toys without any
precautions.

6) Also the other countries import these toy parts from china due
to which this lead poisoning is spread across the world which
made bad consequences. All of the raw materials were supplied
across the world, no proper supply chain management is there
due to which these exchange rate due to which no quality check is
done. Due to problems like the lead with Mattel company in china
arises. To overcome these issues proper quality check should be
done step by step. Also if the exporter is not taking care of the
products and exporting such a harmful substances in that case a
legal action should be taken against the exporter and cutting off
all the further exports from that selleractor.

7) If I was the CEO of Mattel, I would prefer to do the recalling of

the toys as they did to control the situation in the year 2008.It
was the matter of company’s reputation within the world,
therefore something more could be done along with recalling. The
mistake leading the threat to company’s reputation should be
focused to avoid the mistake again. If possible, quality ensuring
team must be employed for testing of the products starting after
the incident to ensure the trust of customers on the Mattel.
Recalling was the best option with no doubt, but extra measures
would be implemented after the crisis as explained above.
