DIVISION OF WHOLE NUMBERS BY 10, 100 AND 1 000

Objective: Divide whole numbers by 10, 100 and 1000.

You are expected to be able to divide whole numbers by 10, 100, 1 000 after
undergoing all the activities in this module. So you are expected to finish this
from the start to the end.

Okay, start with the review portion to check if you have sufficient knowledge
on the previous skills needed.

Review

Try doing this activity.

A. Find the quotient.

a) 112 1680 c) 221 3860

b) 195 4572

B. Try multiplying the following number and look at the products. This will give
you an idea about the lesson you are supposed to study.

a) 56 321 x 10

b) 100 x 74 153

c) 1 000 x 492 618

If you get a score of 5 or 6, you may continue with this lesson. If you
get a score of 4 and below, review the past lessons.

Study and Learn

Read and analyze the problem below.

The Citizens Drug Watch in a town had 120 members. They were formed
into groups of 10 members each. How many groups were formed?

We divide 120 by 10 find the answer:

120 ÷ 10 = N

Look at this:

12
10 120
- 10 ↓ ← 1 x 10
200
- 200 ← 2 x 10
0

Look at the quotient and the dividend.

What can you say? Okay let try another example.

6324 r. 15
100 632415
- 600
324
- 300
241
- 200
415
- 400
15

Again, look at the quotient and the dividend. What can you say? If the
dividend has a non-zero terminal digits the quotient will have the ones digit
as remainder if it is divided by 10; ones and the tens digits as remainders
if we divide by 100 and the ones the tens and hundreds digits as
remainder if we divide by 1 000. The rest becomes the whole number part
of the quotient.

Is it clear with you? Okay you can go to practice items.

Try These

Do this exercise based on what you have learned.

÷10 ÷100 ÷1 000

34 156
721 532
913 287
648 941
287 635

How do you find the exercise?

Wrap Up

To divide whole number by 10, 100 and 1 000 do these:

• when there are terminal zeros in the dividend, cancel as many

zeros in the dividend as there are in the divisor and the
remaining digits become the quotient
• when there are no terminal zeros, the ones digit in the dividend
become the remainder if you divide by 10.
• The ones and the tens digit become the remainder and the rest
the quotient if you divide by 100
• And the ones, the tens and the hundreds digits of the dividend
becomes the remainder, the rest the quotient, if you divide by
1 000.

Valuing: If there is a group in your community that work for drug-free
barangay, will you participate in them? Why?

On Your Own

Now it’s time for you to test your self.

Divide the following

a) 10 2587

b) 10 43100

c) 100 58732

d) 100 615400

e) 1000 387642

f) 1000 765400

Check your answer with the answer key. If you get….

5-6 - Excellent! You may now proceed to the next lesson.

3-4 - You need to review the processes you missed.

0-2 - You need to repeat the whole process.
