Greetings everyone,

Heading back to uni again to keep my qualifications up-to-date.

My wife and I moved up here to Brisbane a touch over 12 years ago from Hobart. I work at a
university myself and am involved in IT projects which have a student facing focus. I have previously
worked at a very large and well known news media company, in the disability sector, and the
outdoor recreation sector.

Currently I am looking at an 18 month project which involves enrolment, timetabling and class
allocations.

From what I have learnt through my own roles in projects, number one is getting the human change
management plan right as this can make your project sink or swim. The disparate teams you work
with have such different cultures and expectations around service delivery that without a strong
understanding of the project it can fail before you even start.

Number two for me is planning, planning, planning. For me planning forms the bedrock of all actions
and understandings that teams have within the project. I’m a big picture person so getting the
details down on paper really assists me keeping to timelines and assures accountability for other
teams within the project.

Looking forwards to building on my knowledge and experience within some formal frameworks.

Nik
