With due respect and courteous honor, I have submitted my internship experience report on
Petrola Trading Corporation. This report is a part of internship course (BUS 498) of spring 2019.
I have tried my best to follow your instructions while preparing this report and to make the report
according to the outline given by the BBA program office. This whole report is based on my
internship experience on Petrola Trading Corporation.

While preparing the report I had to face some difficulties like shortage of time, communication
inconvenience etc. So I tried to make the report perfectly but I hope you will consider my

Executive Summary

Internship is an experience. I have completed my BBA by finishing this course. This was

actually a great experience for me because I have learned so many things from here. My personal

opinion is our universities should provide 15-30 days internship during their semester break to

students for better understanding of real life work environment. So my experience says if

students get proper real life job experience then instant job opportunity can be increased by those

students after graduation. So I worked in various departments and learned different departmental

works in Petrola Trading Corporation. This multi departmental work has made me more skillful

and passionate about work. I am very much thankful to my intern organization to provide me

such a nice opportunity.

About Company

Petrola Trading Corporation Limited, basically a trading firm, representing the interest of foreign

manufacturers / companies in marketing their products / services in Bangladesh in the public

sector mainly through participating in open international tender (ICB) and in the private sector,

through offering quotations to the clients from the foreign manufacturers, subsequently

concluding the deal through negotiation. Petrola Trading is specialized in dealing with road

construction, port and material handling equipments are the exclusive dealer in Bangladesh of

some reputed West European manufacturers. On behalf of foreign manufacturers / principals,

Petrola Trading have had successfully generated and concluded several contracts in various

government departments and private agencies in the country over the last two decades.

Petrola Trading is also involved in supplying Contraceptives in the Bangladesh Family Planning

Program. Petrola Trading is in close cooperation with their foreign Associates, are actively

involved in participating and implementing in various tenders / projects in Bangladesh Gas,

Energy and Railway Sector.

Work Contribution to PTCL

My contribution was significant in PTCL because I was responsible for various important tasks

including client management in PTCL. I had given my best to prove myself as an good

entreprenuer. I have also contributed in Human Resource department as well. So my

contribution list to various departments is given below:

Marketing Department

Week 1

I did not have any major tasks in week number 1 and I was introduced with marketing works.

Week 2

I went with them in Jahin Trading office at Panthapath. Apurbo Bhai and Tanha apu was

responsible for discussing the key factors where I played to role of taking notes of the meeting.

Jahind Trading is actually want to launch new brand as their own heavy durable mobile like CAT

company’s mobile in Bangladesh so they want us import those phone from Germany on behalf

of Jahin Trading.

Week 3

In week number 3, I was responsible to doing the analysis of the clients need based on various

meeting. So my supervisor had given me a thick file where many meeting notes were mentioned.

Zaman bhai taught me how to point out the crucial need of the clients based on meeting note. It

took me the full week to sort out the needs of clients and make a summary of it. I was covered

almost 120+ meetings note and summarized it 5 pages.

Week 4

After making a successful report in previous week my supervisor assigned me with the task of

doing market analysis. For doing this analysis, I had gathered knowledge on market

opportunities how PTCL can expand their market in Dhaka city and outside Dhaka.

Week 5

This week Zaman bhai told me to follow up some clients with Tanha Apu & Apurbo Bhai. So I

called some clients over the week by taking help from Tanha apu and fixed a date for the next

week meeting. This week was so much dilly dallies for me.

Week 7

This week Zaman bhai told me to do the market analysis for PTCL to launch new venture of

PTCL. He has given me some sectors like Information Technology, Digital Service and

Financial Service Industry to find out the data and make a report summary on it. So I got the full

week to make this report. I created the report successfully by taking help from Zaman Bhai.

Week 8

I called 10 clients of PTCL for collecting the due from them. Apart from this, I was also assigned some

HR tasks in this week. Bidita apu is the in-charge of employee recruitment and placement operation .

Week 9

I have created a 2 pages’ summary of market data and created a PPT based on key findings as

well. I have also analyzed the data in excel by using some technical tools. These tools were

taught by my supervisor.

Week 10

I was responsible for creating client pitch in MS Powerpoint where I had to make 3 different presentations

for 3 types of clients.At Wednesday, Zaman bhai told me to sort out the last year’s sales data for

presenting it to next meeting.

Week 6

At the beginning of the week, he briefed me about the tasks I will be doing the following days.

Basically, it was all about assisting in the making of the monthly salary database.

Skills I Have Learned

In my honest opinion, I have get the best experience ever in my life because I was able to work

on different part of an organization that helped me to build my skills. Initially, I was started with

simple marketing report and client service but after that I have learned how to do market analysis

and other technical tasks as well.

Personal Skills

 Discipline:The most important skill that I have learned from PTCL because without

discipline a team cannot work in alignment.

 Mutual Respect: This is another important factor that is needed to maintain for getting

peace in workplace and help each other.

 Punctuality: Momentum is everything in work. Punctuality is highly appreciated in

workplace because punctual people meet the deadline easily.

 Communication:Since, I worked in client service and marketing team so I have learned

how to talk with client and co-workers in professional world.

Technical Skills

 MS Excel: The best technical skill I have learned is MS Excel because MS Excel is a

complicated one. I have learned how to use Pivot table and do some calculative work in

excel.

 Professional Report Making: I have also learned how to create professional report

based on market database.

Analytical Skills

This is one of the important skills that everyone should have to overcome the critical situation. I

have learned a great analytical skill thorough this internship because I had to face some situation

like this. Especially, client service is a challenging tasks where people can us the analytical skills

to tackle the situation.

Critical Situation Analysis

As I mentioned earlier that I learned about analytical skills to handle the situation and that

happened when I started calling the clients for taking date for due collection. The person is

holding GM position in a reputed organization that shouted on me for calling him at afternoon

and told me that he is not in good mood to talk with me right now. When I told him sorry and

asked for apology then that person replied me with sorry and told me that “actually I should tell

you sorry for showing my temper on you, kindly don’t mind sister and call me after 6 pm”. So

when I called him after 6 pm then he talked with me very nicely and told me when to come for

due collection from them.

So the learning is here that a simple sorry can change the situation and make the situation

winning for the person who is facing some trouble. So act according to situation is the best

analytical skill a person can have.

Interaction with coworkers

Honestly speaking, this was a mixed experienced for me because I got appreciation from some of

my co-workers and got pinched as well. But I always tried to maintain the smooth relationship

with everyone with utmost respect. Though everyone shows the respect to each other but at some

point I felt some people are not helpful enough to help an intern. I have mostly interacted with

Zaman Bhai and Bidita Apu. Both of them are helpful and tremendous as person.

Expectation vs Experience

I was expecting to be none of this organization but the reality become more wonderful because I

worked on real activities in PTCL. This was actually more than expectation and I am very much

thankful to my supervisor who always treated me like a professional not an intern. I am pretty

much sure that if I would do the intern at bank then I would not be able to do real life

professional tasks that I did in PTCL. I am thankful to Zaman bhai for his great mentorship and

guidance that helped me to accomplish my tasks properly.

Influence on my future career

I am passionate about banking industry and my dream is to become a great banker. Before

starting this internship, I was always allured to join banks as intern but one of my friends

suggested me to do internship other side of bank if I want to gather some work experience from

internship. This reason made me to apply at PTCL for internship. I am very much happy to get

the opportunity to work here because the learning I have learned is valuable till date. I can bet

that this experience will never be achieved if I join bank for internship. So my career influence is

still on banking but I have suggestion for others to work on local companies to get some real life

job experience from internship.

Academic and Experiential Learning

In one sentence, I want to say is our university education system is traditional and our syllabus is

lack of practical knowledge. I learned excel during my internship program where this software

should be taught on our university in accounting or finance course to calculate the data and sort

down large data. So I have a suggestion for NSU to make the syllabus more practical than the

students will get benefited from the university education. Only university report making format

helped me to create market report for ATCL and I want to thank my Mkt 370 and 360 faculties

for that that taught us about market research very well and sum up the data in a report. In my

point of view, practical knowledge should be more focused rather than traditional book or slide

based teaching. Some assignments on excel based tasks can help students to understand the MS

Excel in a proper way to learn this software for future usage.

Conclusion

I want to wrap up my report with my overall feelings about the internship experience. I must say

doing hard work is very important in life because hardworking persons are productive and

resourceful for an organization. I have observed that my supervisor Zaman bhai is a very

hardworking person who never gives up on anything. I am the eye witness of his hardworking

spirit because he faced many challenges that he had recovered through his hardworking

mentality with intelligence. So he is my inspiration here and I have enjoyed so much to work

with him. Now I can proudly say I can be an asset for a company because I have the experience

on real marketing field and I faced the situation that was never expected. At the end of the day, I

learned and stand up with courage to overcome the situation.

Weekly Journal 1

From 3rd February to 7th February

In that morning, I was feeling like I have grown up because I am going to step in a new period of

my life by joining my internship. I dressed up properly for going to office. My father advised me

what should be done in the office to maintain a good reputation in the workplace. So I was off

for Armanitola where Petrol Trading Corporation’s office is located. When I entered the office,

the office decoration amazed me. The office of PTCL is well decorated and furnished. After

entering the office, I asked the receptionist for the marketing department. The receptionist

instantly took me to the marketing department where I met with Mr. Ashraf Hossain (Director of

Marketing & Sales). He introduced me with everyone in the office and other department’s

people. He also introduced me with my supervisor named Mr. Shadani Hossain (Sales Manager).

From the second day, Shadani Bhai told me that sales and marketing works are very much

interesting. He also told me to become passionate about the tasks I will be assigned. He told me

that he will send me to shift me in other departments after few weeks to teach me other

departmental works as well. In marketing department, I was introduced with Zamin Bhai (Sr.

Executive) who is the current supervisor of mine. Zamin Bhai told me that my tasks will be

started from next week so he advised me to get free with everyone in this week and adopt the

office environment. He also told me to get prepared for some adventure.

10th February to 14th February & 17th February to 21st February

Last week I was asked to attend office at PTCL office for a brief period. This week, my

supervisor told me to visit with Tanha Apu and Apurbo Bhai to attend the client meeting

regarding purchase from a German company. Both of them are marketing executive of PTCL

limited.

Tasks Performed:

I went with them to Jahin Trading office at Panthapath. Apurbo Bhai and Tanha Apu was

responsible for discussing the key factors where I played to role of taking notes of the meeting.

Jahin Trading is actually want to launch new brand as their own heavy durable

equipmentcompany in Bangladesh so they want us import those parts from Germany on behalf of

Jahin Trading. We visited almost 3 days to meet them because the first meeting was with their

marketing manager and head of marketing. At 3rd day, we met the MD of Jahin Trading and

discussed the whole prospect of their business with us.

Learning & Achievements:

 I have got to know that how PTCL sales team works.

 The responsibilities of marketing executive of a trading company.

 The communication way to convince client.

Observations:

My first professional experience was good because my supervisor praised me for my work. So I

observed that PTCL has large number of client based who use PTCL for purchasing and selling

their products in different countries.

24th February to 28th February

Tasks Performed
In week number 3, I was responsible to doing the analysis of the clients need based on various

Observations
I have observed that PTCL is treating me like a full time employee rather than an intern. So It

feels great when I see that my work is getting evaluated and I am getting appreciation for it.

Notable Incidents
My supervisors initially shouted on me when I submitted the report without organizing the report

properly. Few hours later of this incident, Zaman Bhai called me told me sorry for his

misbehave. He taught me how to organize a report for official purpose and he had given me treat

in Motijheel KFC as well.

3rd March to 7th March

Tasks Performed
After making a successful report in previous week my supervisor assigned me with the task of

doing market analysis. For doing this analysis, I had gathered knowledge on market

opportunities how PTCL can expand their market in Dhaka city and outside Dhaka. To know the

market opportunities, I had already take the help of Zaman Bhai because he assigned me this

task. So I was so much prepared in this week and made the perfect report.

Learning & Achievements


 Writing real life market analysis report.

 Making the presentation based on real life report.

 My report was fine and my supervisor told me that he will taught me how to improve

report making on market analysis.

Observations
I must say PTCL is giving me the vibe of real life job. I am so much happy that I have got a nice

office with a great boss who is very much inspiring.

Weekly Journal 5

10th March to 14th March

Tasks Performed
This week Zaman Bhai told me to follow up some clients with Tanha Apu & Apurbo Bhai. So I

called some clients over the week by taking help from Tanha apu and fixed a date for the next

week meeting. This week was so much dilly dallies for me.

Learning & Achievements


 Learned how to fix a meeting by taking the time from the client and how to communicate

with client properly.

 Tanha Apu and Apurbo Bhai praised me for my confidence.

Observations
Though this week was not that much workaholic for me but still I learned some valuable things

in these days. I am feeling like I am learning at least one new thing in every week in my

internship journey. I am taking these adventures and work challenges positively because I want

to create a good impression to my employers. I want to prove myself as well because I got to

know that PTCL give opportunity to their effective interns to work with them after completing

internship properly.

Notable Incidents
This week Zaman Bhai, Apurbo Bhai, Tanha Apu and I went to watch performances at

Shilpokola. It was a different experiment for me.

15th March to 17th March

That week I was shifted to Accounts department of PTCL for helping them in their accounts

related work. I want to thank Zaman Bhai for keeping his promise because he told me that he

will send me to other departments to increase my work experience. So Zaman Bhai introduced

me with my supervisor was Nijum Bhai (Sr. Executive – Accounts).

Tasks Performed
At the beginning of the week, he briefed me about the tasks I will be doing the following days.

Basically, it was all about assisting in the making of the monthly salary database. Basically in

salary database I had to calculate all employees’ salary and allowances. Usually PTCL gives

salary to employees in last week of every month. Basically, HR and Accounts department

collaboratively do this work. My line manager explained to me that my part in the database and I

prepared it according his instruction. The salary sheet making is not that much easy. So I

collected all the data’s from HR department and then collaborate it with allowance papers of

each employees. PTCL employees basically give their allowance sheet to Accounts department

not to HR department. So it took whole week for me to prepare almost 36 people’s salary of the

office including office staffs.

Learning & Achievements


 I got to know how to prepare a salary sheet and how to include allowance in salary sheet

by dividing all the transaction of allowances.

 Made 36 people’s salary sheet in a week.

Observations
My observation says PTCL is considering me as their regular employee and utilizing my

potential. I am happy to have an office like PTCL because it is helping me to increase my

knowledge base.

Weekly Journal 7

24th March to 29th March

This week I was sent back to Marketing department again. I was happy because I have already

learned how a company’s accounting department works. This week my supervisor Zaman Bhai

assigned me a technical task.

Tasks Performed This Week


This week Zaman Bhai told me to do the market analysis for PTCL to launch new venture of

PTCL. He has given me some sectors like Information Technology, Digital Service and

Financial Service Industry to find out the data and make a report summary on it. So I got the full

week to make this report. I created the report successfully by taking help from Zaman Bhai.

 How to do market analysis of an industry.

Observations
I want to thank Zaman Bhai for considering me as one of the important part of his department.

He told me that I have potential to become a good employee because he sees that spark in me.

After reviewing my report, he praised me a lot and gave me treat in Hirajheel restaurant. I am

very much happy that I have got a company like PTCL as my internship company.

Notable Incident
Before starting the work on report, I was very much tensed because I thought that I would not be

able to make it perfectly. So I asked Zaman Bhai so many times regarding so many things. So he

referred me to discuss with Anupam Bhai (Sr Executive – Mkt. Dept.). Whenever I went to

Anupam Bhai for discussing he pinched me by saying that what I have learned in my university.

So I felt so insulted and then came back to my desk without letting the Zaman Bhai know about

this incident. I started working on my own and researched over internet for making a

professional report with data. At the end of the day, I have learned how to become a self-

dependent person whenever no one is there to help you.

31st March to 4th April

In week number 8, I was assigned to call the clients for taking a date of due payment from them.

Zaman Bhai told me what to ask and how to ask the clients for due payment. Honestly, this task

is so much critical because people’s mood does not stay same at regular time. I have also worked

for HR department as well.

Tasks Performed This Week


I have already called 10 clients ofPTCL for collecting the due from them. Apart from this, I was

also assigned some HR tasks in this week. Bidita Apu is the in-charge of employee recruitment

and placement operation. So she assigned me to check more than 300 resumes and sort out the

candidates based on PTCL requirements. It took 3 days to finish this work because sorting out

candidates by matching every requirement is very much hard. I have given her 47 candidates CV

after sorting out and called them for interview to attend the interview in next week.

Learning & Achievements


 How to talk with clients over phone call to ask for something.

 The process of sorting out candidates by filtering the requirements of company and

calling them for interview.

Observations
I am so much happy because of my work variability. I am getting engaged in some fruitful work

to increase my knowledge and real life experience. I believe, I have potential to become a great

asset for a company. Apart from this, I have also observed that PTCL appreciates its employees

for their performance and give them bonus based on performance as well. So PTCL is such an

inspiring organization.

Notable Incident
When I started calling the clients for taking date for due collecting then one of the client (holding

6th April to 11th April

In this week the work pressure was bit low. I was assigned to do summary of some market data

and write down the key findings of current import market.

Tasks Performed This Week


I have created a summary of market data and created a PPT based on key findings which consist

three pages. I have also analyzed the data in excel by using some technical tools. These tools

were taught by my supervisor.

Learning & Achievements


 Create real-life report for organization.

 I have learnt how to use excel for sorting out large number of data by using Pivot Table.

Observations
This week I am very much happy that I have learnt something new and have done an important

task for my organization. I never felt like I am an intern here. I get appreciation for my work and

also get the feedback from my supervisor as well.

Notable Incident
I felt the problem initially after starting the task of sorting out the data. I didn’t even know that

how to filter large data. So Zaman bhai came to me and laughed at me for 5 minutes and told me

that “didn’t your faculties of accounting taught you this in the class?”. I was feeling shy and

replied him that we didn’t even learn excel properly in our BBA courses. So he again laughed at

me and told me that our educational system is not up to the mark because pivot table creation

should be taught in our accounting courses to filter same type of costs that occurs different days

in the year. After that he taught me how to use pivot table and told me that I should not feel shy

to ask for favor from him.

14th April to 19th April

This week I was in too much pressure because I was assigned with some presentation work and

data analysis work by using Pivot Table. Apart from this, the sad part is this was the last week of

my internship. So I became emotional in last day because I got lots of things from this office and

I have learned so many things too.

Tasks Performed This Week


I was responsible for creating client pitch in MS PowerPoint where I had to make 3 different

presentations for 3 types of clients. Zaman Bhai provided me the info to what to put and how to

present in slide. So it took me 1 day for each PPT creation. At Wednesday, Zaman Bhai told me

to sort out the last year’s sales data for presenting it to next meeting.

Learning & Achievements


 Create presentation for client pitch and what information should put in real life client

pitch.

Observations
I am very much happy that I have learned so many things during my internship program. I think

there are very few lucky students who got the opportunity to learn in their internship program

and I am one of them actually. I am very grateful to my office.

Notable Incident
At Thursday, I got a surprise from the office. They had given farewell with cake and gifts. I will

remember this day always because this is the first office that I worked for and experienced so

many good things.
