HE bible says that God has “given to us exceedingly
great and precious promises” (2 Peter 1:4). The
bible describes God’s promises as being
“exceedingly great.” Indeed that is true! It has been
estimated that there are approximately 30,000 promises in the
bible. They are too numerous to count and too numerous to
bring all to mind! God has given to us many promises such as
“Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the
desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4) and “If you abide in Me,
and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it
shall be done for you” (John 15:7). The bible also describes
God’s promises as being “precious.” God’s promises are
priceless and invaluable. They are comforting to the soul and
encouraging to the heart. Promises such as “If we confess our
sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse
us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9) and “The steps of a
good man are ordered by the LORD, and He delights in his
way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the
LORD upholds him with His hand” (Psalm 37:23-24) bring
comfort and encouragement to our hearts.
Christ. The bible says that Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the
life” and that “no one comes to the Father except through
Him” (John 14:6) and that there is “one Mediator between God
and men” who is the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Tim. 2:5). So if you
want to be heard by God and want to receive His promises, you
need to go to God through Jesus Christ.
The bible says to “take the prophets, who spoke in the name of
the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience” (James
5:10). Consider the example of Sarah also who “judged Him
faithful who had promised” (Heb. 11:11). And finally consider
the examples of the men and women in Hebrews chapter 11 –
that great chapter of the heroes of faith “who through faith
subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, OBTAINED
PROMISES, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the
violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness
were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the
armies of the aliens” (Heb. 11:33-34). The bible commands us
to “hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for
He who promised is faithful” (Heb. 10:23) and that we should
“not cast away our confidence, which has great reward. For we
have need of endurance, so that after we have done the will of
God, we may receive the promise” (Heb. 10:35-36).

"Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the
earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is
nothing too hard for thee." (Jer. 32:17)
"He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us
all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all
things?" (Rom. 8:32)
"And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and
night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you
that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the
Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?" (Luke
18:7-8)
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee
great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
(Jer. 33:3)
“But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God,
thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart
and with all thy soul. When thou art in tribulation, and all
these things are come upon thee, even in the latter
days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be
obedient unto his voice; (For the LORD thy God is a
merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy
thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he
sware unto them.” (Deut. 4:29-31)
"From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my
heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher
than I." (Psalm 61:2)
Faith 18
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that
giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it
shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing
wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea
driven with the wind and tossed.” (James 1:5-6)
“Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the
church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with
oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall
save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he
have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for
another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent
prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a
man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed
earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the
earth by the space of three years and six
months.” (James 5:14-17)
"For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying
unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. Fear not, thou worm
Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the
LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of
Israel." (Isaiah 41:13-14)
"Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and
ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and
that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall
ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you."
(John 15:16)
“Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then
cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your
eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to
harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and
gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth
and he that reapeth may rejoice together. And herein is
that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. I
sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour:
other men laboured, and ye are entered into their
labours.” (John 4:35-38)
Fruitfulness 25
“But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep
you from evil.” (2 Thess. 3:3)
God’s Faithfulness 27
“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will
give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from
them that walk uprightly.” (Psalms 84:11)
“Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not
one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very
hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore:
ye are of more value than many sparrows.”
(Luke 12:6-7)
Guidance 30
“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou
shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” (Psalms 32:8)
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto
thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge
him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Prov. 3:5-6)
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that
giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it
shall be given him.” (James 1:5)
Guilt 31
“For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth
eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and
holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble
spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the
heart of the contrite ones. For I will not contend for ever,
neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail
before me, and the souls which I have made. For the
iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him:
I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the
way of his heart. I have seen his ways, and will heal
him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him
and to his mourners.” (Isaiah 57:15-18)
“And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn
Healing for the Backslider 33
"I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for
mine anger is turned away from him. I will be as the dew
unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his
roots as Lebanon. His branches shall spread, and his
beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as
Lebanon. They that dwell under his shadow shall return;
they shall revive as the corn, and grow as the vine: the
scent thereof shall be as the wine of Lebanon."
(Hosea 14:4-7)
Hope 34
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou
disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet
praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and
my God.” (Psalms 42:11)
“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in
believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the
power of the Holy Ghost.” (Rom. 15:13)
Joy 35
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to
destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that
they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)
“Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and
drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom
nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord:
neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your
strength.” (Neh. 8:10)
Loneliness 36
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another
Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even
the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive,
because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye
know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I
will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”
(John 14:16-18)
"He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up
for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us
all things?" (Rom. 8:32)
"And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man
should be alone; I will make him an help meet for
him." (Gen. 2:18)
"For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will
give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from
them that walk uprightly." (Psalm 84:11)
Peace 39
“But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his
eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered
a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle
you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.
Amen.” (1 Peter 5:10-11)
“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and
to present you faultless before the presence of his glory
with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour,
be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now
and ever. Amen.” (Jude 1:24-25)
Persistence 41
“Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry?
let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call
for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him,
anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the
prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall
raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall
be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and
pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The
effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth
much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we
are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it
rained not on the earth by the space of three years and
six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave
rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.”
(James 5:13-18)
Pressing On 43
“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but
one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate
in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown;
but we an incorruptible.” (1 Cor. 9:24-25)
“For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods
upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed,
and my blessing upon thine offspring: And they shall
spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water
courses. One shall say, I am the LORD’S; and another
shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another
shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and
surname himself by the name of Israel.” (Isaiah 44:3-5)
“But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God,
thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart
and with all thy soul. When thou art in tribulation, and all
these things are come upon thee, even in the latter
days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be
obedient unto his voice; (For the LORD thy God is a
merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy
thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he
sware unto them.” (Deut. 4:29-31)
“I love them that love me; and those that seek me early
shall find me.” (Prov. 8:17)
“And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee:
for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek
thee.” (Psalm 9:10)
“The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the
soul that seeketh him.” (Lam 3:25)
Sleeplessness 53
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and
learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye
shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and
my burden is light.” (Matt. 11:28-30)

shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not
faint." (Isaiah 40:31)
"Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not
thyself because of him who prospereth in his way,
because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to

off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit
the earth." (Psalm 37:7-9)
