1. According to the Big Bang theory, some kind of expansion of space took place at some point in time. What is
the estimated date of the start of this expansion?

The Big Bang theory states that the universe began with the singularity, which is the point at
which everything was infinitely concentrated and time didn’t exist yet. It is generally
accepted that the Big Bang marked the beginning of the universe, which happened 13.8
billion years ago. We know this occurred 13.8 billion years ago because the expansion of
the universe offers several natural clocks with which to date it. The first and more notable of
these is the Doppler Effect and the presence of cosmic microwave background radiation.

2. Explain two (2) pieces of evidence that point to the idea of Big Bang and expansion of space

2 pieces of evidences that point to the idea of the Big Bang and expansion of space is the
discovery of cosmic microwave background and the expansion of space itself. As stated in the
Big Bang theory, the early universe was a very hot place and that as it expands, the gas
within it cools. Therefore, the universe should be filled with radiation that is literally the
remnant heat left over from the Big Bang, which is the “cosmic microwave background. Also,
the Big Bang is not an explosion of matter moving outward to fill an empty universe. Instead ,
space itself expands with time everywhere and increases the physical distances between
comoving points. In other words, the Big Bang is not an explosion in space, but rather an
explosion of space.

4. What is cosmic background radiation?

The cosmic background radiation or CMB is thought to be leftover radiation from the Big
Bang. As the theory goes, when the universe was born it underwent a rapid inflation and
expansion. We can’t see the CMB with your naked eye, but it is everywhere in the universe.
