Red Flags to look out for


Look out for these signs of distress and immediately call the hospital
 Persistent fever
 Purulent discharge
 Increase in wound pain with pain and fever (doesn’t get better 24 hours)
 Loose motion > 10 times a day
 Redness and swelling in surgical area
 Any new or worsening problem

What you do at home?
 Hand Hygiene
 Personal Hygiene
 Mouth Wash
 Betadine/Chlorhexidine mouth wash 3-4 times/day
 Oral / RYLE’s / FJ tube feeding to be done as per doctor’s order and keep the tube
clean by flushing with plain water after each feed. Clean & well cooked food, Avoid
outside & Raw food
 Wound Care
 Wash hands before and after changing a dressing
 Wear gloves
 Clean the wound with saline solution
 Dry it & apply new dressing
 Medication
 Take medication at time and keep them in their original boxes
 Drink water and stay hydrated
 Mild exercise regularly as instructed by doctors
 Get enough good sleep
 Mobilization
 Minimizing alcohol consumption
 Stay physically active
 Diet: Boiled egg
 Sitz bath for all patients.
