GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
‘The KFC 300 is a totally new integrated Flight Control System. The Flight Director portion of
the system provides multi-mode, computed visual guidance information on the pilot's instrument
display. The Autopilot conditions the same computed signals and translates them into aircraft
control forces, providing automatic guidance, A listing of these Modes of Operation can be
found in Paragraph 1.2
A more detailed description of the KFC 300 System operating capability is contained in the
Pilot's Handbook.
Figure 1-1, Page 1-7 illustrates the components in a typical KFC 300 System installation, These
components and their installation kits are itemized in Paragraph 1-4, From this listing a selec
tion can be made to meet the requirements of a specific aircraft.

KCI 310 Flight Command Indicator
Description
‘The KCI 910 Flight Command Indicator is a 4 inch internally lighted panel mounted
instrument that presents a pictorial display of the aircraft pitch and roll attitudes
as well as the computed flight director command display. The attitude information
is shown on an "inside-out" presentation. All guidance commands are depicted
through the use of a "single-cue"command bar arrangement, "ATTITUDE"
and "COMPUTER" warning flags are provided to indicate invalid attitude or
computed command displays.
Localizer, glideslope and VNAV deviation and track angle indicators are also
employed in the indicator so that "raw" data may be easily compared to the
computed guidance command, Shutters are provided for each of these displays
to obscure the deviation indicator from view in event of an invalid signal or
receiver failure,
Minimum descent altitude (MDA), and decision height (DH), which may be
pre-set on the KVN 395 VNAV and Radar Altimeter respectively, are annunciated
in the KCI 310, The annunciator light level is controlled through an automatic
light dimming circuit to provide a clearly readable display under all cockpit
lighting conditions,
An inclinometer is located in the lower portion of the display providing slip
or skid indications to aid in making coordinated turns,
‘The test button on the KCI 310, when depressed, provides functional testing
of the KFC 300 System, A complete description of the test is contained in
paragraph 2, 3, 5.

1.6.2 KAP 315 Annunciator Panel
1.6.2.1 Description
‘The KAP 315 Annunciator Panel indicates, by means of lighted displays, which of
sixteen Flight Director~Autopilot modes are active so that the pilot is continuously
aware of the operating status of the system. The display is lighted when the pilot
activates various modes by depressing the mode select buttons such as NAV (ARM)
and APPR (ARM), or engaging the YAW DAMP or AUTOPILOT switches, all of
which are found on the KMC 340 Mode Controller or the KVN 395 Vertical Navigation
Computer. The self-activating modes such as NAV CPLD and APPR CPLD are
lighted and the "arm" modes are automatically switched off when the mode is
coupled.
‘The KAP 915 is normally mounted in the instrument panel above the primary
flight director instrument, directly in front of the pilot. It contains a photocell
and associated light dimming circuitry which provides a clearly readable display
under all cockpit light conditions including direot sunlight. Each display contains
dual redundant lamps for increased reliability.

1.6.7 KSA 370 Servo Actuator and KSM 375 Servo Mount
1.8.7.1 Description
‘The KSA 370 Servo Actuator is an electrically driven primary servo that converts
electrical autopilot error signals into mechanical forces to drive the aireraft
control surfaces. The KSM375 Servo Mount supports the KSA 370
and serves as the interface member between the Servo and the control surface
cables or linkage. Both allow removal of the Servo Actuator for overhaul,
maintenance, or inspection without "de-rigging" the cabling or linkage,
‘The KSA 870 is a DC motor driven unit with velocity feedback. ‘The unit
utilizes spur gearing to achieve the appropriate reduction and drives through an
electric engage clutch at its output. Electrical torque limiting is provided
by current limiting the servo amplifier that is housed within the unit. The
electrical torque limits are selectable and are established for the individual
axis of each aircraft, The servo couples to the servo mount through a splined
shaft,
‘The KSM 375 houses an overpower slip clutch within the output drive pulley or arm.
‘This clutch setting is also selected for the individual axis of each aircraft,

KVN 395 Vertical Navigation Computer
Description
‘The KVN 395 Vertical Navigation Computer is an internally lighted 3 inch ATI
panel mounted instrument that serves as an altitude pre-selector, an-altitude alerter,
and an enroute and approach vertical guidance unit.
Altitudes from sea level to 49, 900 feet may be preselected in increments of 100 feet.
‘Automatic capture of the selected altitude may be accomplished when the "ALT ARM"
push button has been depressed, Minimum Descent Altitude (MDA) warning may
also be annunciated if desired.
Altitude alerting is provided with visual and aural warnings per FAR 91,51, The
visual warning lamp is controlled by an automatic light dimming circuit that
provides sufficient intensity under all cockpit lighting conditions.
Enroute or approach vertical guidance to a specific altitude over an RNAV
waypoint may be easily set up and computed within the KVN 395, The computed
information is displayed by means of a meter movement in the right hand side
of the KCI 310 Flight Director Indicator. Before coupling to "VNAV", the meter
displays the ascending or descending Might path angle to the selected altitude
fat the waypoint Once the "VNAV CPLD! pushbutton is depressed the flight
path track angle is stored, and the meter shows deviation from this path, The
VNAV may be coupled to the Flight Director and the Autopilot, and automatic
altitude capture may be performed as described above in preselecting altitudes.
A distance bias knob is also provided on the KVN 395. It allows the pilot to
reach the selected altitude by as much as 30 miles before reaching the RNAV
waypoint.

1.6.12 KPI583 Pictorial Navigation Indicator
1,6, 12,1 Description of Equipment
‘The KPI 553 Pictorial Navigation Indicator is a 4 inch panel mounted instrument
and is part of the King KFC 300 Integrated Flight System. It presents a plan view
of the aircraft with respect to magnetic north, selected heading, selected course,
and automatic bearing of the ADF/RMI station selected. Heading, selected heading,
selected course, and the ADF or RMI station bearing are read against a servo
driven compass card. The servo drive electronics for the compass servo loop
and ADF/RMI servo loop are contained within the indicator, Provisions have
also been made for remote positioning of the selected course and selected heading.
‘The amplifiers for these drives are also self-contained.
Meter movements display glideslope deviation, course deviation, To-From
indication, and operate warning flags or shutters that monitor compass, navigation
and glideslope valid signals.
In addition the unit has dual three digit numerical readouts located at the top of
the front bezel. The left hand readout displays RNAV waypoint distance (in
nautical miles), The right hand readout displays ground speed (in knots) or time
to RNAV waypoint (in minutes) at the pilots option by depressing the push button
located to the right of the readout. Pressing the push button will cause the
readout to alternately display ground speed "KTS" or time to station "MIN",
‘This information (KTS & MIN) is annunciated by a three position indicator located
between the two readouts, This indicator will automatically display "FT" (feet)
whenever the aircraft's radar altimeter senses an altitude of less than 1, 250 feet,
In this state the right hand readout will display three dashes. These dashes
will remain in the readout whenever the aircraft is between 1, 000 and 1, 250 feet
inclusively. Below one thousand feet the readout will display the radar altimeter
sensed altitude (in feet), Both readouts are equipped with a lamp test function,
Depressing the push button and holding it down will cause each digit of both
readouts to display a figure eight and light the decimal point in the left readout
{used to indicate tenths of a nautical mile), ‘The brightness of the readout with
respect to the cockpit ambient lighting is automatically controlled by a photocell
located to the left of the left hand readout, All data displayed by the readouts
is obtained from the KDA 335,
