BRAIN TUMOR DETECTION USING

DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING

INTRODUCTION
MRI images are best suitable for brain tumor detection. Digital Image
Processing Techniques are important for brain tumor detection by MRI
images. The preprocessing techniques include different methods like
Filtering, Contrast enhancement, Edge detection is used for image
smoothing. The preprocessed images are used for post processing
operations like; threshold, histogram, segmentation and morphological,
which is used to enhance the images.

The early detection and recognition of brain tumors is very crucial.

Presently, computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems are usually used for
systematic and specific detection of brain abnormalities . A brain tumor is
the unnatural growth of tissue or central spine that can interrupt the proper
function of the brain . From the report of the national cancer institute
statistics (NCIS), death rate on account of brain cancer for USA is 12,764
per year, 1063 per month, 245 per week, and 34 per day. It shows that it is
very significant to diagnose brain tumor in advanced levels to save lives.

Drawbacks
Images are not in the exact size; hence the images have to be re-sized
which may result in
 inaccuracy. Calculation of the area of tumor depends on the accuracy
of pixel information obtained from Gray scale imaging.
 Preprocessing is essential for noise removal.
 Unable to remove or extract noise that associate with edges.

RESERCH GAP

For future work, we will analyze features to include more features which
can be used for detection and accuracy increment, but the required
computational time will be high. Moreover, we will analyze for reducing the
required computational time and modify the complexity of the proposed
TKFCM algorithm compared to the conventional algorithms. However,
more specification and standardization of TKFCM can be used for CT,
PET, SPECT and neuro imaging.

Develop the algorithm to identify the type of the tumor and use color
images in the process.
