Mr.

Ratan Tata
1. "I don't believe in taking right decisions. I take decisions and then
make them right."
For entrepreneurs, some decisions can make or break anything. Ratan
Tata firmly believes that sometimes you have to make the decisions and
prove them right rather than taking the right decisions. Entrepreneurs and
innovators are questioned every time they wish to venture into a new zone
and a lot of people stress the importance of taking the 'right decisions'.
However, sometimes the best way is to make a decision and then work to
make it right.
2. "There are many things that, if I have to relive, maybe I will do it
another way. But I would not like to look back and think what I have
not been able to do."
People are often hesitant to take risks or do something out of their comfort
zone, which often restricts them from exploring their own abilities. Ratan
Tata once said that while there are certain things which he would do
another way if he had the chance to relive those moments, he never wants
to look back and think about things which he didn't do. Risks don't always
result in rewards but sometimes it is better to have tried and lost than never
tried and regretted forever. Sometimes a risk yields greater rewards.
3. "Take the stones people throw at you. And use them to build a
monument."
Criticism and judgement are inevitable and no matter what you do or how
well you do it, there will always be someone who is not pleased or satisfied.
A lot of people give up when they are criticised and are not supported. In
fact, a lot of innovative people give up on their dreams because there are a
million voices telling them that it won't work. However, Tata believes the
one should take the criticism in stride and use it as a tool to fuel their
efforts. Every piece of criticism can be turned into a success story which is
what one should try to do rather than giving up when people are hoping
that you would.
4. "If you want to walk fast, walk alone. But if you want to walk far,
walk together"
Teamwork makes the dream work and this is what Tata believes as well.
While alone you might walk faster and reach the destination quicker,
together one can walk and far and achieve more. There is so much more
one can achieve when they have a solid support system and people around
them who they can trust and rely on. No matter how brilliant you are, if you
are alone you might not achieve what a great team can achieve when they
are working towards a common goal with passion and dedication. Treat
your team right and it might just be the one things which can help you
achieve greatness.
5. "Wo insaan jo dusaro ki nakal karta hai thode time ke liye safal ho
sakta hai but jiwan me bahut aage nahi badh sakta"
Innovation has proven to be a key ingredient for success. There are
countless examples of people like Bill Gates, JRD Tata, Jeff Bezos, Steve
Jobs and Azim Premji who have achieved great success because of
innovation. Ratan Tata also believes that innovation is a key to success as
those who copy others might get ahead for some time but they will not be
able to sustain for long and the innovators will always have an edge which
will propel them forward sooner or later. One should always strive to do
what they do best rather than copying others because not only are you
losing your individuality, you are also killing a chance of something new to
be introduced or created.
6. "None can destroy iron, but its own rust can. Likewise, none can
destroy a person but his own mindset can."
Ratan Tata has been praised time and again for his business ethics and
philanthropy. He firmly believes that a person's attitude and mindset can
make or break them. No matter how talented, hard-working or genius one
is, if their attitude is not right, they can destroy themselves. One of the
classic examples is Steve Jobs refusing surgery when he found out that he
had cancer. Despite several people telling him otherwise, he believed that
medicines and diet can help cure him. The decision cost him his life
because by the time he realised his mistake, the cancer was already at an
incurable stage.
7. "Ups and downs in life are very important to keep us going because
a straight line even in an ECG means we are not alive."
Success and failure are a part of life but they are not the deciding factors.
One success does not make a person invincible and one failure does not
mean that there is no hope anymore. While changes are uncomfortable,
they are also required to move forward as a stagnant life will not reward
you. In order to move towards greater heights, one has to climb and while
you might slip and fall, there is always an opportunity for you to get back up
and start over. But if you give up, you might not fall anymore, but you won't
reach anywhere either.
