General Information Wear a self contained breathing apparatus with fullprotective gear, coal dust
may be a potentially explosive material – avoid catalytic sparks or flames in a
dusty environment.
Extinguishing Media Water spray (fog) is best extinguishing medium for small fires; carbon dioxide
dry chemical media and foam may also be used.
Piles of coal not properly compacted/stacked may ignite – use of water to
control fire in a stock pile may result in hydrogen explosion.
Engineering Controls Use adequate ventilation to keep airborne concentration of finex particles to a
minimum

Personal Protective Eyes Always wear appropriate protective eyeglasses or safety goggles
equipment
Skin Wear appropriate gloves to protect skin exposure
