Document Development Exposition: Workplace Correspondence

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
 The planning that was involved for this packet required me to pick a company or
organization that I am writing for. My topic had to be related to trout, so I decided to pick
SCDNR because they regulate fishing statewide. I had to come up with a problem, so I chose
one that I have seen before. Once I had my organization, I had to figure out my audience. I
took a creative approach to this topic and acted as the SCDNR director. Once I figured out
what to write, I began with an email and then the memo

First Draft (for peer editing)

 Writing the email was easy because I was informing SCDNR officers of the regulation changes
(that I made up) and the problems that it will cause. I did have problems trying to figure out
the best tone to use in the email. I did not want to sound rude or pushy however that is the
tone that was conveyed in my email. SCDNR is a law enforcement job so I felt that the tone
needed to be somewhat demanding.

Second Draft (for your packet)

 The peer review that I received for this packet was not helpful at all. They did not give me
any suggestions and I did not change much information between the first draft and the
second draft.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

 I made corrections based off your comments. I switched the email to single space, and block
style. I tried to soften the language in places that seem threatening. I tried to create a
signature block, but I could not figure out how to input my signature electronically. I also
rearranged some of the paragraphs to make the introduction and the summary more
distinguishable.
